Audi Announces Ducati Q3 2013 Sales Results
Thu, 07 Nov 2013Ducati delivered 36,662 motorcycles worldwide over the first nine months of 2013, according to the third quarter financial report from parent company Audi.
An exact year-over-year comparison is not available however, as Audi only took control of Ducati on July 19, 2012, but Audi admits demand had declined mainly due to a weak economy in key European markets such as France, Spain and Ducati’s home market, Italy. We can provide a rough year-over-year comparison for the third quarter ended Sept. 30 however.
Audi had previously reported Ducati sold 26,007 motorcycles in the first half of 2013, which means another 10,655 motorcycles were delivered to customers from July 1 to Sept. 30. By comparison, Ducati delivered 10,764 motorcycles from July 19 to Sept. 30, and that’s not including sales over the first 18 days of July which would be attributed to Ducati’s former owners.
Braking the sales figures down by categories, Ducati’s naked models accounted for slightly more than half of its total sales over the first three quarters. Sales of the various Diavel, Monster and Streetfighter models accounted for 18,558 motorcycles, or about 50.6% of all sales. Hypermotard and Multistrada models (including the Hyperstrada) sales make up 11,407 units while sportbike sales totaled 6,697 units for the first nine months of 2013.
Once again comparing the third quarter to the July 19-Sept. 30 period of 2012, sales from the Hypermotard/Multistrada families increased 49.3% over last year to 3,395 motorcycles, aided by the introduction of the 821cc Hyperstrada and Hypermotard models and the revised Multistrada. On the downside, naked Ducati sales were down 13.5% to 5,507 models while sportbike sales were down 33.7% to 1,753 motorcycles.
Ducati contributed €50 million (US$67.1 million) to Audi’s total operating income of 1.1 billion through the opening three quarters of 2013. In the third quarter however, Ducati posted an operating loss of €6 million compared to a loss of €4 million in 2012.
