Americade 2014 Begins June 2nd
Wed, 21 May 2014Billed as “the world’s largest multi-brand motorcycle touring rally,” Americade is a true rider’s rally. While some motorcycle events provide opportunities to stand around, eye expensive custom machines and talk about how much you love riding motorcycles, Americade offers a seemingly endless list of both organized and self-led rides through some of the most beautiful scenery the northeast has to offer. This year, after the experiment of a weeklong Saturday-to-Saturday rally in 2013, the event will begin on Monday June 2nd and end on Saturday June 7th.
Americade, Americade. So Cool You Have To Say It Twice.
The riding portion of Americade takes full advantage of Lake George’s scenic upstate New York location. On the schedule are no less than 46 rides to choose from. Ranging from guided and unguided “MiniTours” to poker runs and scavenger hunts, you’re guaranteed to see tons of the local scenery or venture further into the Adirondacks and even the Green Mountains of Vermont. Of course, any rally worth its salt will have demo rides, and Americade is no different.
Closer to the center of the event in Lake George Village, the TourExpo, which bills itself as “the largest motorcycle expo in the US,” takes up over 200,000 square feet of display space and features over 200 vendors. You’ll recognize the major brands that are on display, so leave some extra room on your bike to carry home some screaming expo deals. Other off-bike events include: Barbecues, boat rides, Americade University Seminars from motorcycle industry experts, a parade, fireworks, and more. Then there’s the popular stunt shows and the dizzying wall of death.
Americade 2013
Being a tourist community, lodgings in the Lake George area are ample and deals can usually still be found at the last minute. The folks who attend Americade are friendly, and you won’t find the attitude that affects some large motorcycle gatherings. In fact, it’s frowned upon. Additionally, loud-pipers should probably go save lives somewhere else since the rally organizers feel so strongly about it that they post a page detailing New York State’s noise limits on the event’s website. You have been warned.
