2023 Piaggio MP3 Three-Wheeled Scooters – First Look
Thu, 02 Jun 2022New range-topping 530cc engine
Piaggio announced an updated MP3 lineup, giving its three-wheeled scooters a number of technological upgrades, as well as a new range-topping MP3 530 hpe Exclusive model.
A 530cc engine replaces the previous 493cc powerplant at the top of the MP3 range. Piaggio claims the new engine produces more than 44 hp, the same peak as the previous engine, but Piaggio says the larger engine provides a significant increase in torque. The Piaggio MP3 400 hpe and Piaggio MP3 400 hpe Sport return, with an updated engine to reduce noise and vibrations. The 400cc version claims an output of 35 hp and improved fuel economy over the previous engine.
A new 7-inch TFT display replaces the previous generation MP3’s dual analog dials and LCD screen. The full-color display is the hub of the MP3’s infotainment system, with smartphone integration and GPS navigation.
ABS and ASR (anti-slip regulation, a form of traction control) come standard across the range. The MP3 530 Exclusive adds three selectable engine modes (Comfort, Eco, and Sport), cruise control, plus a new reverse gear with a backup camera to make it easier to fit the three-wheeler in tight spaces. The Exclusive also features a Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) that alerts the rider of objects within a 30-meter (98-foot) radius, as well as a Lane Change Decision Aid System (LCDAS) to warn against potential collisions when trying to change lanes.
Other features include a reshaped seat, reduced weight, keyless ignition, a slimmer tail and a tire-hugging license plate holder.
Piaggio is currently taking reservations in Europe. The MP3 530 hpe Exclusive is priced at 12,999 euros (US$13,970). The MP3 400 hpe comes in at 10,499 euros (US$11,280) and the Sport version at 10,999 euros (US$11,820).

I’ve been tooling around Europe this week—Barcelona, Nice, Marseille, Florence, Rome—and OMG, the scooters. It has been a road to Damascus experience. Scooter power. ✊

That's the way humans are supposed to travel when solo. Or even two up.
Wallowing around in 3 tons of SUV in order to transport 1 person to work, makes about as much sense as stuffing oneself with lard until one becomes so big and awkward that one can no longer balance on two, but is instead stuck slowly crawling one's overgrown self around on all four.

No, humans are supposed to travel by walking. I don't know about you, but I don't want to walk anywhere.
I love that in the US we have the freedom to drive a Mini Cooper or Chevy Suburban or anything in between.

I love that, too. Freedom is _always_ better than _not_freedom_ . As in, literally, _always_ (As Ron Paul put it, mayyyybeeee, but only maybe, with some possible exceptions in areas involving nukes...)
What I don't love, is that I don't have the freedom to drop off my walking shoes wherever they fit, without unduly blocking anyone else. But instead have to search for a spot large enough for a Suburban, to be allowed to drop them off.
And also, that I don't have the freedom to walk between parked cars, unless I'm doing so in a "designated" lane wide enough for a Suburban to fit.
Neither of the latter, have anything to do with freedom whatsoever. Just plain old totalitarian tyranny.

Ah, the sun tour. Stop posting, have fun.
I like scooters, but the only way to really ride them is like in Europe, with lane splitting and filtering. Here, they are driven like skinny cars, taking up whole lanes, and wait-your-turn at the light. And even with maxi scooters, there are funner vehicles for freeway slogs. Thus, here is not there for scooter popularity.

Suburbans aren't nuclear powered so...
SUVs really do not bother you. You allow them to get to you, but they are not impeding your life.

There’s a Scarabeo 500 in my garage that is an absolute hoot on my 40-mile (round trip) commute. Except when the mercury climbs. Something to be said for A/C when when dressed for court.

Isn't it so nice to see how they integrate with yraffic in Barcelona. I was amazed when I first saw this over 10 years ago and was amazed and watched several times. I wish motorcycles and scooters were treated with such respect and integration in American cities.😉😊😁
A scooter for us old scoots!!
