2011 Barry Sheene Memorial Challenge

Tue, 12 Oct 2010

CANCER is a terrible disease that has taken countless lives, including two-time 500GP World Champion Barry Sheene.

Combining passion for motorcycling, a European adventure and the opportunity to benefit those afflicted with the disease, in association with Clic Sargeant, the 2011 Barry Sheene Memorial ride will see two routes plotted across Europe.

The two route options are as follows:

1,900 miles and nine days: starting on 10 August the trip will start at Brands Hatch with a route that will visit the Chimay circuit, France, the famous Nurburgring, Germany and all the great biking roads on the way to the Brno GP at the end.  900 miles in five days: leaving Brands Hatch on 22 June setting off on a similar route visiting Chimay, Nurburgring but moving across Europe to Zolder in Belgium before finishing at the MotoGP round at Assen.

Riders are asked to pay a registration fee of £195 for both routes and raise a minimum of £2,750 (nine-day ride) or £1,650 (five-day ride) in sponsorship for CLIC Sargent. Participants will be given a resources pack to help with fundraising and a designated CLIC Sargent contact to support them in reaching their target. The sponsorship fee includes ferry travel, accommodation, breakfast and evening meals, tour leader, support van, GP ticket and route planning/map costs.

All the sponsorship raised for the event will go towards providing clinical, practical and support for children and young people with cancer, and their families.
