Up for auction is my beautiful 1974 Yamaha DT250A with 1,964 original, unmolested miles. When I purchased the bike a few years ago it had around 1200 miles on it. I would definetely call this bike a survivor. I haven't seen another Yamaha DT in this condition. It runs flawless, and while riding it you will feel like you are on a new one. The Silver body parts have been repainted with a base coat and clear coat. The clear has very fine cracks in it, mostly in the rear fender. Only noticable if you were told about it and look at it in the right lighting. Some other parts like the swingarm, chain guard, and exhaust have been repainted in the correct finish black. All the paint work was done a few years ago, soon after I purchased it. Paint work was't done last week for a quick resell. The inside of the gas tank had some surface rust, enough that I felt it needed to be coated. So I used the POR-15 gas tank sealer and correctly applied it, also replaced the gas cap seal. I haven't had a problem since. Petcock also has been replaced with a new one. Original finish on the gas tank isn't perfect, it has some small imperfections like a few scratches, and some paint chips which have some slight rust bubbling. Can be seen in my pictures, still shines great, and doesn't need any attention in my opinion. After purchasing the bike I went over the entire bike, and got her all ready for the road. Both tubes were replaced and original tires re-mounted. The wheel locks were removed for a smoother ride, and wheel/tires balanced. Tires are still soft and it rides smooth. I see no reason to replace them, even if you plan on riding it on occasion like I have. Fork seals replaced along with dust boots and new fork oil. All the bulbs replaced, voltage rectifier replaced, turn signal flasher, and battery replaced last year. Carburetor gone through, bowl gasket, needle and seat were replaced. NOS throttle cable assembly, nearly impossible to find, from the throttle tube to the carb and injector pump. Oil injection pump completely disassembled an rebuilt with new seals. Also correctly adjusted, bled and works flawless. Boyesen reeds are the only modification to the engine. Engine has been completely re-sealed and checked over. Top end removed for clean up and simply did a quick hone, original piston and rings re used, since they had such low mileage, and looked practically new, ring gap and clearances in spec. Crank and mains inspected as good as possible, and all appeared and felt good. Both side Crank Seals replaced with NOS seals. Shifter, clutch shaft, counter shaft and kicker shaft seals all replaced with NOS seals. All side cover and top end gaskets replaced to ensure no problems. Points and codensers replaced and ignition timing set properly using a dial indicator. Engine sounds absolutely perfect, and doesn't even seep any oil, it's completey dry and has been for several years now. Starts easily, and has a ton of compression. Engine fires and idles perfectly right away. You would think you are starting a brand new one. Absolutely no running issues at any point, idle, accelerating or while riding. No hesitation, surge, abnormal noise, pinging etc. Revs up through the rpm range easily. Chain and sprockets replaced, front sprocket is one size larger and rear is several teeth smaller. This makes for a much more enjoyable ride. The bike cruises easily now at 50-55 MPH, I think right around 4000 rpms at 55mph. I added a bar end mirror since the original one was missing. I removed the original grips and replaced them with new ones because I didn't want to drill a hole in the perfect original ones. The original ones are included, along with the original front sprocket, turn signal flasher (doesn't work), and original owners manual. The original tools and tool pouch are still under the seat, held in by a non original strap. Has the original Yamaha rear rack/ passenger seat. I did removed the seat portion of it to use as a rack. The perfect condition seat simply fits on with 4 screws. Or removed the entire rack easily, no modifications or clamps used for the rack it simply bolts on with factory hardware. The only non functioning item on the bike are the back-lighting bulbs for both gauges. Not noticable until you ride at night, then you can't see the gauges. I never worried about it since I have only ridden it during the day. Again you will have a hard time finding a nicer and more road worthy, classic Yamaha DT. If you want a bike that needs nothing and can be ridden home, then this is your bike. Has been hands down the most reliable classic bike that I own. After getting her road worthy again I haven't had to do anything to it. I am probably going to regret selling this bike. I just don't ride it a whole lot, and have other road bikes as well, along with some other project bikes I would like to start. I don't have to sell this bike, so if the reserve isn't met, I will simply hold onto it. I also Will Not end the auction, and do Not have a buy it now price in mind. Buyer to pay $250 down payment through paypal. The remaining balance with cash upon pick up or with a money order or cashiers check. Check will have to clear before it leaves my posession.
