Yamaha Recalls R1 and Super Tenere for Overheating Headlights

Yamaha has started a recall campaign on 2009-2013 YZF-R1 sportbikes and 2012-2013 Super Ténéré models because of a risk of headlight failure due to overheating. The recall campaign affects 19,045 units of the R1 and 4,683 units of the Super Ténéré in the U.S. According to documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, heat generated by the headlight bulb socket may cause the terminal ends to expand, resulting in arcing between the terminal connector and bulb contact.

Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., is proud to announce that it has signed on as sponsor for the GEICO Motorcycle Superbike Shootout Presented By Yamaha, a three-event championship motorcycle road racing series that includes the Yamaha SoCal Nationals at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA on April 26-27; the Pacific Nationals at Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, CA on May 3-4; and the Mountain Nationals at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT on May 24-25. The announcement was made by Bob Starr, General Manager of National Communications for Yamaha’s Motorsports Group. Katsuyuki Nakasuga, the surprise podium finisher at last year’s MotoGP finale in Valencia, will have the chance to catch lightning in a bottle once again, after being granted a wild card entry to the 2013 Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi. Nakasuga shocked the racing world with a second-place finish at the Valencian Grand Prix last November as an injury replacement for then-Yamaha factory rider Ben Spies. Nakasuga made the cagey decision to run slick tires in the wet race.
