Yamaha XT description

Up for auction is my 1977 Yamaha XT500 that I’ve had for around 5 years now. I purchased it from my Dad who had it for around four years. It is in excellent condition given that it is 36 years old! It has only 8,719 original miles! The tank, side panels and rear fender are also original to the bike. As can be seen from the photos, the paint is in pretty good shape, no oxidation or major scratches.  I went through the entire bike last year (spring of 2012), making sure it was in proper working order. The reason I’m selling it is that I’ve only ridden it around 30 miles since last year’s refresh. I don’t ride it nearly enough.

It is a great running bike, with plenty of power! It starts pretty good as well. When I went through it last year, it was my intention to ride it to work. But, traffic is crazy, and people seem to be paying less and less attention. Here’s a list of what I’ve done to it:

·         New clutch plates and friction discs- exactly like stock

·         New points and condenser

·         New Double Oiler line for the cams- better oils the top end on the bike versus the stock single oil line.

·         New IRC GP110 front Tire w/ tube (less than 30 miles on it)

·         New IRC GP110 rear tire w/tube (less than 30 miles on it)

·         New front fender in 1977 factory brown- Exact replica of the original

·         Stainless Steel bolt kit for the clutch and timing cover

·         New chain roller

·         New battery

·         Crankcase saver- attaches behind the drive sprocket cover. It is supposed to keep the chain from damaging the case if it breaks.

·         New magnetic oil plug

·         New side number plate lock

·         Adjusted the valves

Everything listed above cost me over $700.00. It really didn’t need much, just a freshening up! It has always run great for me! I also had a K&N air filter on it (and the breather). I decided to return the bike back to stock, so the stock air box is currently on it. It does need a new stock air filter (and filter cage), as I lost the old one I had when I moved to my new house. That is the only thing it needs! The tank does have a few very minor dents on it as can be seen from the photos. But you really have to be looking for them to notice it! Also, I never got around to replacing the side number plates, as they are a little faded. That would be the only other thing wrong with it visually.

Overall, it is a great unmolested 1977 XT500. These are getting harder and harder to find in this condition! I know I probably missed something, so feel free to ask any questions! Thanks for looking!

This bike is for local pick up only. I will not ship it. I require a $250.00 deposit at the end of the auction. The remainder is due upon pick up (cash only). I will have the clear title in hand. Buyer must contact me no later than two days after the sale to arrange pick up.
