Yamaha XS400 description

Up for sale is this 1980 YAMAHA XS400 Special II. This is a 6 speed bike with electric and kick start. It has been slightly modified into a street tracker/scrambler. The bike is still mostly original. This is an extremely clean bike for the year, and has only 2450 original miles on it. I purchased the bike in original condition with 1200 miles on it. I made all of the minor modifications myself, including redesigning the seat, which was professionally upholstered in black leather. The carbs were sonic cleaned and rebuilt with all new jets and tuned, along with new intake boots.  The handlebars are new black flat track style, with new rubber grips. The air filters were replaced with UNI foam filters, and the carbs were jetted for that change. The tires were replaced with new Vee Rubber on/off road tires and the wheels were balanced. I still have the original rear Yokohama street tire in excellent condition that will go with the bike along with the chain guard. The gas tank is original blue paint with few small chips and a scratch....but NO DENTS. All of the chrome is in exceptional condition, as is the frame paint. There is NO surface rust or rot on this bike. The rear fender has been shortened from the inside and painted in satin black. There is no front fender. The tail light and turn signals have been replaced with smaller aftermarket equipment. The battery is a new YUASA. The headlamp has been fitted with a protective cage. The side covers were repainted in satin black and Yamaha tuning fork decals added. I also modified the fuel petcock so it is no longer a vacuum system. I am currently using a secondary inline shutoff valve, and abandoning the fuel reserve option. A non vacuum replacement petcock is available for this bike online for around $60. The bike has a 4 gallon tank on it and gets an average of 60+ mpg. I have never found myself in need of reserve fuel. To sum it up, I have ridden this bike a little over 1200 miles this year, and it runs and rides like it was new. It is a very fun bike on dirt roads, and also moves right along comfortably on the main roads. Everything works electronically as it should, as the wiring and fuse box is corrosion free. The brakes work like new, the chain and sprockets are like new, the plugs are new, and the oil is recently fresh with a new K&N filter etc... These bikes are becoming quite collectable, and this one will not disappoint you. It gets a lot of lookers and comments wherever I have taken it. It`s ready to ride, just as it sits....or you can tweak it out even more, to your desire.

Please e-mail me with any questions. I am in zip code 12025. I will not ship the bike myself. It has to be picked up, or I can make an arrangement to deliver it within a 75 mile radius of my location. If you want to take care of the shipping and cost, I will assist you in doing that, but I will not crate the bike. Anyone seriously interested is welcome to come and check it out. I will take all reasonable offers into consideration. THANK YOU FOR LOOKING.

I have been asked why I am selling it. Well....it`s a hobby, since the 70`s, when I was a kid riding bikes. I find them, buy them, fix them if needed, sometimes re-design them...and always ride them for awhile for the fun of it, and to be sure they are top notch to sell. AGAIN....ask ANY questions.
