Yamaha V Star tech info
Yamaha V Star description
You know how you've often heard that when you buy a bike, you are buying someone else's problems? That is certainly NOT the case here. I am moving and unfortunately I can't take my bike with me, which SUCKS. This bike has treated me well and I've done a bit of work on it which I think any rider would totally benefit from. As a professional tech, all of my work is top notch, follows best practice, and no corners were cut. I've had this bike inspected and to my knowledge it has never been laid down nor has it ever been in any kind of accident. It runs great and is ready to ride.
You can pick it up locally or arrange to have it shipped to you. Shipping at buyers expense. I prefer cash. Other methods will need to clear the bank before transfer of title. I'm offering this bike with a complete set of accessories - Please look at the pictures and read the description for more info. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll reply as quickly as I can. What follows is the most honest assessment you are ever going to get from ANY owner about their bike. Known issues 1) The heated grips The left grip heater started working intermittently last season, and I put together a patch to get me through, but I'm not sure how long it will last. Ultimately these grips will need to be replaced at some point. Also, whoever installed this system apparently thought that using electrical tape long term is a great idea in automotive applications. ITS NOT. If you want anything to last, you use heat shrink. if you need guaranteed water proofness you use adhesive heat-shrink, or if you don't have any, or need to be able to open the connection back up at a later time, use heat-shrink AROUND the electrical tape. Whoever installed the heated grips chose a decent enough system but the use of electrical tape and cheap non waterproof fuse holder really bugs me. This is something I noticed while installing the accessory port on the bike and it irks me greatly. If I weren't selling the bike, I would almost certainly would be doing this project in anticipation of the coming Michigan winter riding season. 2) The tires This bike has 9500 miles on it and I suspect that the tires have been on the bike since 2001. They have cracks in the sidewalls and need to be replaced. This would have been something I did this year before the winter season, but I'm kinda selling my bike, so that's gonna have to be something the buyer takes care of. 3) The backrest is showing its age. some of the stitching came loose and the previous owner covered it with electrical tape. I didn't notice this until after I had taken delivery. If you aren't looking for it, it's something that is easy to miss. --- Work I've done --- I bought this bike at something like 7500 miles, and I'm embarrassed to say that I've only ridden a little over 2000 miles on it. During that time I've changed the engine oil and filter, the oil in the rear diff, and the air filter. I've done the following upgrades: 1) I've changed the stock headlight to a JW speaker 8700 EVO 2(also known as the Harley Davidson DayMaker) which is literally the brightest headlight you can put on a bike. 2) I've installed an accessory port to enable the use of a helmet light and heated visor, and a float charger when the bike is in storage or not being ridden for extended periods of time. 3) I've installed a handlebar center mounted waterproof cellphone box for my Galaxy S4 with Extended battery and TPU case. This box is the biggest one the sell and should be able to fit any modern smartphone with ease and have enough room left over for an extended battery pack for the phone or other things you want to protect and keep dry. 4) Replaced the OEM gascap with an aftermarket one since the seal on it was leaky. I still have the OEM gascap if you want it. (maybe you can put a new seal on it) I also have a Yamaha Service manual and a collection of other repair manuals for this bike if you want them. ACCESSORIES: 1) OEM Wind Screen: Came to me with the bike. 2) OEM padded back rest: Came to me with the bike. 3) OEM Luggage rack: Came to me with the bike. 4) Saddle bags: Came to me with the bike. 5) Waterproof Cellphone Box: Rammounts RAM Sealed Enclosure Large Size AQUA BOX 1 Internal dimensions: Width=3.5", Height=8.43", Depth=2.25" inches. This box is the biggest one the sell and should be able to fit any modern smartphone with ease and have enough room left over for an extended battery pack for the phone or other things you want to protect and keep dry. 6) Bike Cover: Dowco Guardian WeatherAll Plus Motorcycle Cover with storage/carry bag 7) Charger: Plug and play float charger to keep your battery charged during extended periods between rides. Just plug it into the same accessory port used for the helmet light and heated visor 8) Upgraded LED Headlight: JW speaker 8700 EVO 2 - also known as the Harley Davidson DayMaker 9) Helmet: HJC CL-17 Size XXL Helmet with both stock visor and heated visor, and mounts already set up for Helmet light. Heated visor is a must for rides below 65 degrees F to maintain a fog free visor. If you don't wear a size XXL, it is very easy to move the heated visor to another compatible helmet(Any size CL-17 for sure, but likely others in the HJC line) and apply the Velcro to the new helmet to be able to use the accessories in this auction. 10) Helmet light: Cyclops Helmet light kit - Custom fitted to Helmet and bike. If you don't want to use the helmet I'm including, you can use it on your own helmet. All you need to do is apply Velcro to attach this kit to your helmet and simply plug it in. 11) Heated grips: Came to me with the bike - they work, but the grips need to be replaced, and the associated electrical work needs to be tidied. 12) Super bright LED Tail Light: Came to me with the bike I also have two other headlights for this bike - The OEM stock headlight, and a diamond clearlense halogen light fixture which, while brighter than stock doesn't hold a candle to the JW speaker light I ended up putting in the bike. You can have these if you want them. And now for the fine print: 1. This vehicle is being sold AS IS with no warranty expressed or implied. 2. This vehicle is up for sale in other venues and locally so I reserve the right to end the auction without prior notice. 3. The buyer is responsible for ALL shipping logistics and costs. 4. The buyer will be expected to pay a $500 down payment within 24 hours of auctions end the balance of the selling price within 3 days. 5. Title will not be transferred until payment is complete and cleared by my bank. Thanks for looking! |

Maybe the Evo class is the future for WSB?
Thu, 05 May 2011Did we see the future of World Superbike racing last weekend at the BSB event? Possibly, but only if everyone is on Evo spec machines in 2012. By setting the 2nd fastest lap in race one and running second for a while in race two, the brilliant Alex Lowes proved that with a good grid position an Evo spec machine can be competitive for part race distance at least.
