Yamaha : Xs 1981 Yamaha Xs850 Silver With Gold Trim — Rare on 2040-motos

Yamaha Other description
For sale is my old 1981 Yamaha that got me riding motorcycles. I now ride a 2009 Triumph Bonneville T100 and we do not have room in the garage for this bike. In fact, it is at the mechanics (Flying Tiger in Maplewood, Mo.) as we speak with plans to pick it up this week if it does not sell quickly. The mechanic made it all nice and pretty, replacing gaskets, filters, fluids and such, as well as fixing an issue with the cylinders. After a good chunk-of-change it is all fixed up. The bike is all original. I was the 3rd owner. The 1st owner put most of the miles on it, and the 2nd owner and me pre-owned it to learn how to ride. We had a great time on it! But we barely put any mileage on it at all. It is a 32 yr old bike with under 8,000mis (I don't have the specific mileage because it's at the mechanics and they rode it around some obviously but it's around 7,750mis). I rode it around Denver, Colorado (as did the other owners) and moved it to St. Louis with me in 2011. It has been ridden around the block to "keep the fluids moving". But as I stated, I primarily drive or ride my Triumph. All the maintenance items on the bike have been updated, replaced, relubricated, etc. etc. Battery runs good (new in 2010), flashers work, horn, lamps, etc. Electric ignition. Mirrors are not on the bike at present but I have them in my garage and would obviously include them. They are in attractive shape. The images of the bike are not "recent" as in a few days old; they are from last summer. But the bike is cosmetically unchanged and only has a handful more miles than in the photo. It has been garaged its entire life, including now. In fact, I included some pictures from Colorado and 1 of my Triumph(!). If you want to see a video of the bike, visit this URL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dptipYcaTZw This is a classic bike, in attractive shape. AS I said, everything is original (except for maintenance items, of course). Like anything 30+ years it has a nick here and a nick there (i.e., fuel tank/pipes), but other than that is immaculate and pristine for its age. It just needs to go to somebody who can ride it and care for it without it getting jealous of, say, a T100. I am attaching a youtube link for a video of it running. I must ask the buyer to pay a $500 paypal deposit at the time of purchase via BIN or MAO, with the balance from a certified bank check upon pickup. I prefer local pickup, but will work with a shipper of course. Title is CLEAN, though it is a Colorado title as I never registered it in Missouri. But it sits next to me as I type this and the new buyer would own this bike free and clear, I guarantee (no lien holders) . UPDATE: The motorcycle is now back in my garage. It has officially 7,717 mis on it. The battery is on the tender but may need to be replaced as it is running a little low. Please consider that when making an offer (I will install a new battery after Thanksgiving before it is sold/shipped). Also, the "Yamaha" lettering on the fuel tank is a faded out some. I forgot to include that descriptor. I will try and add a photo of that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dptipYcaTZw

The Pursuit of Yamaha-ness – A Message from Yamaha’s CEO
Thu, 10 Jan 2013Yamaha must “pursue true Yamaha-ness and break out of our old norms” if it hopes to increase profitability, says Hiroyuki Yanagi, the company’s president and chief executive officer. In an open letter released by Yamaha, Yanagi discussed what his company needed to do in order to reach its goal of producing 12 million units this year and collecting 2 trillion yen (US$22.5 billion) in sales. Yanagi’s message offered little in specific details but provided a glimpse of Yamaha’s overall strategy for the next few years.

A Different Bike Magazine
Thu, 12 Feb 2009Motorcycle Retro is a pet project of former Motorcyclist editor Mitch Boehm, launching as Motorcyclist Retro in early 2008 under the Source Interlink media umbrella. It featured a contemporary look at motorcycles of the 1960s through the 1980s. However, the circulation numbers of MR didn’t meet the expectations of the media conglomerate, and they cancelled production of the magazine after just two issues.
