DVR2 electronic dynamo regulator & cut-out for
POSITIVE EARTH bikes (see my other auctions for negative earth model). (Field to Earth or 'shunt field') A heavy duty fuse holder is INCLUDED with this auction !!! so, the regulator is $76, the fuse holder is $6= $81 plus postage & packing Description and features of the DVR2™MADE IN THE UK !!!!! The DVR2™ regulator is the well established and regarded solid state dynamo voltage regulator from Dynamo Regulators Ltd. It is a modern electronic 'solid state' replacement for the original electromechanical 'CVC' regulator units on Classic Motorcycles equipped with dynamo electrical generation. It features excellent charge voltage stability from the lowest revs to maximum speed, zero low speed battery discharge into the dynamo and high fault tolerance. DVR2™ Specification
The DVR2™ employs a tough aluminium alloy case for excellent heat transfer and a slim unit Robust & reliable, cool running & efficient. More light..... Less heat. Available in positive and negative earth versions, 6 or 12 V selectable. Set to 6 V by connecting an additional (white) wire, 12 V by leaving it unconnected (insulated). The module is compact and does not run hot. This means it can be fitted as a stand alone unit, in a toolbox or bolted to rear mudguard, etc. or housed in either a Lucas or Miller regulator case, to maintain original appearance. The DVR2™ is similar in cost to some other regulators but its performance and reliability are superior to these competitors. With the DVR2™, there is no battery discharge to field at low revs. Battery voltage is stable (above cut in speed) regardless of your speed. Your dynamo will start up (and be regulated!) with no or very low battery. Do your homework and come to DRL first: don't be one of those who buy from us only after a bad experience with one of those 'too good to be true' cheap far east import units. Introduction : Benefit from fitting a DVR2 high quality 'solid state' electronic dynamo
regulator . . . * Brighter & more stable lighting (steady ammeter reading) * Reliable charging from lower engine speed without overcharge * Starts with a 'flat' battery or none at all, no low speed discharging * Easier starting due to greater battery power * Longer battery and bulb life * Lower maintenance (no adjustments to regulator cut-out and less
battery topping up) DRL has made every effort to ensure a robust and reliable design, using
up to date electronic components assembled using dependable ‘surface
mount’ technology. Housed in a very presentable aluminium case.
Compact size, electrically rugged and fault tolerant, with superior heat
transfer to keep the circuitry cool for enhanced reliability. Protection features: The DVR2 is protected against voltage spikes from the dynamo or on the
battery line, reverse polarity connection of the dynamo or battery, and
will survive short circuit of the output. For full protection it is essential to
fit a fuse in the line from the regulator output (‘A’ Terminal) to the
ammeter or battery ‘live’ terminal. Fitting a fuse is good practice with
either original equipment type ‘CVC’ regulators or an electronic
replacement. Use a 12 to 15 Amp fuse for 6V, or a 10 Amp fuse for 12V. 6 or 12 Volts? Running a 6V dynamo at 12V using a DVR2 brings the benefits of
brighter, cheaper bulbs, but requires increased dynamo speed over 6V
operation. Sometimes charging may not be adequate during prolonged
slow running. A Lucas E3L dynamo in good condition will safely provide
80W or more output at 12 V. Staying with 6V operation adds solid state
zero-maintenance convenience to the system, and with modern bulbs
gives good lighting at all practical speeds (provided that the wiring,
switches and connectors are in good condition). Fitting : The DVR2 will fit inside Lucas or Miller cases or is easy to mount (and
hide) on its own. Fixing is via a single M5 (5 mm diameter) stud. Size is
56 x 33 x 18 mm. The unit produces an exceptionally low level of heat,
but if very heavy continuous loading is demanded it is wise to mount it in
a flow of cooling air. The maximum safe continuous output current for
the DVR2 electronics is 12 Amps, but this current would overheat many
dynamos (for example the Lucas E3L) if prolonged. Connections: Before fitting the regulator it will be helpful to confirm your dynamo
gives a good output of the correct polarity.
Seek qualified assistance if unsure. Disconnect battery or remove fuse
before connecting! Connect the five leads as follows (and study the included wiring diagram): Black lead (Negative Earth) OR Red lead (Positive Earth) to Earth / frame / chassis
Green lead to Field Yellow lead to Dynamo
Brown lead to Ammeter White lead to Brown lead for 6 V operation White not connected (insulated) for 12 V operation Don’t forget to refit the fuse! Guarantee
The DVR2 is guaranteed for one year from purchase against
manufacturing defects, but not for faults caused by improper fitting or
use. If a fuse is not fitted as described above any claim for damage may
be rejected.
If in any doubt about fitting this electronic regulator correctly
seek the assistance of a competent person! Other Notes * The resistance of the dynamo field winding must be greater than
2.5 ohms. If less the dynamo will be very inefficient and there is a
real risk of damaging the regulator. *Disconnect or remove any field resistor which may be fitted at the
dynamo or elsewhere (wire-wound item connected to field
terminal). Ensure that the field wire of the dynamo goes to the F
terminal of the DVR2, and that no other wire is connected. Failure
to do so may result in overcharging and possible damage to
equipment. * The DVR2 is not suitable for use with 3 brush dynamos. However,
usually the 3 brush dynamo can easily be converted to a 2 brush
unit. *The DVR2 is not designed for use with a large capacitor (e.g. Lucas
2MC) at the output. * The metal case of the DVR2 is not connected to the ‘earth’ lead. If
the earth connection via the lead is lost the dynamo output voltage
will not be regulated. Here is the full product line: The DVR2™ regulator is our well known highly regarded electronic dynamo voltage regulator for most motorcycle and other lower output dynamos. DVR3™The DVR3™ is a high output electronic dynamo regulator & cut-out with current limit up to 22 Amps. It suits many classic cars, tractors, watercraft..... The DVR4™ is a high output, current limited electronic dynamo regulator for series connected field dynamos (e.g. Bosch & other European makes). DVR2-D™The DVR2-D™ regulator/cut-out suits 2, 3 & 4 wheelers (and some watercraft etc.) fitted with Siba or Bosch Dynastart units BSA A7/10 belt drive kitFor BSA A7/A10, this kit employs the widest possible 15 mm belt, and gears the dynamo speed up by 20%. A 'fit and forget' solution to an old problem area
Some more product detailsDRL's regulators all feature surface mounted high temperature rated components, machine soldered onto quality printed circuit boards (PCB) with heavy duty copper layer. The PCB assemblies are produced by UK based subcontract manufacturers to conform to all relevant manufacturing standards. We mount the PCB assemblies in machined Aluminium cases to ensure excellent heat transfer. The potting used provides complete protection from mechanical and thermal stresses as the regulators will often be situated in extreme engine bay conditions. We never have and never will use unreliable components in our designs, such as electrolytic capacitors or potentiometer adjusters which will degrade over a period of time. Every individual unit is tested prior to dispatch, usually on our motorised dynamo test rig, with our in-house designed electronic load simulator, which reproduces the worst case conditions which may be encountered in use. The DVR3 and 4 units employ high current MOSFET transistors to provide the cutout function. This feature gives these parts their very low heat dissipation (less than 6 Watts at 22 Amp output) so the units run notably cool, even with continuous full output current. It also means more power is available to the electrical loads on the vehicle and from lower speed. The compact nature of the regulators all them to be fitted inside most sorts of original regulator enclosures. The DVR2 will fit inside an MCR1, MCR2, RB107 or RB108 case for example. The DVR3 comfortably fits inside an RB106 or RF95 case and of course the later and larger RB310 & RB340 series. The DVR2-D is specifically made to fit inside the 3 bobbin Dynastart controllers from Siba or Bosch. The small size helps of make to electronic regulator conversion very straightforward, and practical for many, if not most enthusiasts with a little electrical ability. |
