Triumph Trophy description
Up for auction is a numbers matching 1972 Triumph TR6C in great condition. This Texas bike had been stored inside for over 20 years when I purchased it 2 years ago. I purchased the bike to restore and show at local car / bike shows but now I need the space in the garage for another project.
The TR6C's were built for the American market and some were used as desert racers in California. They were called Desert Sleds.. They differ from the regular TR6's with upswept pipes with a heat shield and a skid plate. Only 1,040 TR6C models were built in 1972 and complete and original bikes are hard to find. This bike is complete and has all the original parts. It did not appear to have been raced or abused in any way.
The exhaust pipes, mufflers, heat shield's, fenders, wheels, speedo bracket, throttle housing, choke lever, spokes, shifter, kick starter, headlight, headlight brackets and handlebars were removed and sent out and re-chromed.
The frame was repainted black.
The tank was cleaned and coated inside using POR products. New fuel petcocks were installed. The tank was then re-painted the correct Polychromatic Blue with off-white inlays and gold pinstripes. The Triumph tank emblems were then replaced.
All the control cables were replaced.
The tires were replaced with new period correct Dunlop tires with new tubes. The original wheels are marked "made In England". Both front and rear wheel bearings were replaced.
The hand grips, rubber foot rests, passenger foot pegs, kick starter rubber, shift lever rubber, front brake and clutch levers were replaced. New mirrors were installed.
The battery was replaced and the wiring harness was cleaned and most connectors were replaced with correct rubber replacements. The original wiring harness had not been cut or altered in any way. The switches were taken apart and cleaned and the switch levers were replaced. All the lights, turn signals, kill switch and horn all work properly. The bike still has the original Lucas electric system including the Lucas headlight. The rear taillight lens was replaced. All the light bulbs were replaced. The red and the amber reflectors were replaced.
The front forks were taken apart and all the seals and bushings were replaced. The 1972 models came with only a speedometer but the bike is set up from the factory so a tach can be added easily. The speedo and odometer work fine but the trip meter does not work. I found out it did not work when I rode the bike home from the shop. The rubber case for the speedo was replaced.
The ignition switch and the front fork lock were replaced.
A new seat was purchased and installed. I kept the original seat cover and foam and it is in good shape and will go with the bike. The original seat cover has diamond shaped indentions and the replacement seat has square indentions. Almost all the nuts, bolts and other fasteners were replaced. Even the springs for both kick stands were replaced.
The engine had not been run in over twenty years when I got the bike. The top end was removed and gone through and re-assembled and the engine was then tuned by Storm's Cycle in Grand Prairie, Texas. Storm's Cycle opened in 1964 selling and servicing Triumph's, BSA's, and Norton's and are still in business. The cylinder has been bored and new pistons and rings were installed. The transmission shifts good and the brakes work good and the clutch works properly. The carb was gone through with new jets and gaskets. The engine was cleaned thoroughly and the cylinder was re-painted the correct black. Since the pictures were taken, the engine cases were removed and polished, then re-assembled with new gaskets and new allen head screws. The cases look good in the pictures but they look great now. The bike is currently registered, licensed and inspected in the State Of Texas. The Texas title will transfer to any other state and the bike should pass any state inspection
The odometer shows 24,500 miles but it has only been ridden about 50 miles since the top end was re-built. This is a classic 41 year old British bike that has been restored and will need to be broken in by the new owner. It is ready to ride or show. I have over $5000. invested in the purchase and restoration of this classic bike, not including untold hours. The new owner will receive all of the parts and hardware removed and all the receipts for the new parts. Most of the replacement parts were purchased from British Only Motorcycle Parts.
Any shipping arrangements will need to be made by the buyer but I will help in any way I can. I will sell to overseas buyers but they will have to make all the shipping arrangements. I will take the bike to DFW airport or the Port of Houston for overseas buyers,

2012 Triumph Bonneville T100 110th Anniversary Edition Revealed
