Triumph Sprint description

2001 TRIUMPH SPRINT RS 955, REDUCED...WAS $3499....NOW ONLY $3299!!Don't let the miles fool you, this bike is cherry. Excellent condition. Tires are basically new.The lively, hard-accelerating Sprint RS combines high performance and excellent handling with versatility and presents it in a lean, half-faired style that is very much its own. Like the Sprint ST and Speed Triple, the Sprint RS is powered by a fuel-injected, 12-valve triple engine tuned to give huge reserves of midrange torque plus a peak power output of 110PS (108bhp) at 9200rpm. Peak torque is 97Nm (72ft.lb), produced at just 6200rpm. The motor, finished in silver and graphite grey, is on display beneath a sleek half-fairing that holds Triumph's trademark twin elliptical headlamps. The frame is a twin-spar aluminium construction, finished in contrasting matt black, which provides high rigidity and anchors the light, stiff twin-sided swing-arm that was especially designed for this bike. The lean look is further underlined by the RS's sporty yet comfortable riding position, while generous ground clearance, powerful brakes and efficient suspension complete this versatile machine. Despite its visual simplicity the Sprint RS is well equipped, with thoughtful details including the all-electronic instrument console (featuring digital speedometer and clock, two digital trip meters and an analogue tachometer) plus the removable rear seat cowl.KEY FEATURES Engine: Lightweight, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 3-cylinder engine with DOHC, 12 valves, tuned for a huge spread of torque across the rev range. Lotus-designed cylinder head ports for optimum efficiency. Oil cooler for engine temperature control. Spin-on oil filter for easy maintenance. Magnesium cam, clutch, water pump and outlet covers for light weight. Lightweight polymer sprocket cover. Cable operated clutch for additional weight saving. Sagem MC1000 electronic engine management, with automatic cold start compensation and self diagnostic capability. Reprogrammable injection mapping to match accessory performance silencer. Closed loop catalytic converter in some markets. Individual plug top coils for stronger sparks and reduced weight. Precise 6-speed transmission. Durable stainless steel exhaust headers with balancer designed to boost mid-range power. Chassis: Lightweight aluminium perimeter beam frame, using engine as a structural member. MPG or BHP?

If you were a child of the seventies, you may remember Craig Vetter’s name from his previous work as a stylist (Triumph Hurricane) or his huge fairing business, Vetter Fairings.  Since then, the 69 year-old industrial designer has become obsessed by fuel consumption - or rather highlighting how poor motorcycles are delivering impressive figures. He originally ran a series of fuel challenges in the eighties and now the economy has taken a nose dive, he has resurrected the competition, figuring that the time is now right to highlight these issues again. According to Vetter, three of every four American gallons of petrol is imported – reason enough to devote his time to raising awareness.
