Triumph Other description
Here we have my 56 TR6 pre unit triumph. Please look the pictures over, they tell the tale. I got this bike a while ago with the plans of restoring but it never happened, now I have to many other projects and my race bikes need parts, so here this goes on the auction block. I believe this to be a 56 numbers matching pre-unit. Frame and enigine #'s 04475. The bottom end of the motor is solid, the con rod and big end are tight - no play there and the crank bearings look smooth. The pistons and cylinder are high compression bored 3rd over, new rings should be good to get those going. The head is a rebuilt big valve head and I got new push rods, tubes and the tricor oil connection piece for the head along with all new head bolts. The trasmission shifts through all the gears fine but I would plan on rebuilding anyway. The frame has both the front and rear section with the foot pegs and engine mounts for engine and tranny. The clutch back plate is there, but the bike is missing the clutch basket, chain and front sprocked. I would either plan on getting that off E-Bay or swap meet, or Brit Cycle Supply has some really nice belt drive kits for this motor, that I was originaly planning on using. The forks and front end, much like the rest of this bike will need rebuilding, I would plan on bushings, seals and probably more. The wheels are ok but not original. Wire harness is there, its not pretty but could be made to work, headlight is decent and the tail light needs a new lense. The gas tank and oil tank are pretty nice. The motor is the one just before they came out with the alternator version. So you get the generator in the front, plan on new brushes here. Then you get to ignite this thing with the magneto. The mag for this bike I had rebuilt at Mainly Magneto's and they did a really nice job which cost 300 bucks, so your getting a quality, very hard to find part there. The Amal carb is there and will need to be rebuilt also. Lots of other really nice stuff here, the exhaust is the big diameter TT pipe's which I have always been a fan of, and tough to find for the pre units; you get the speedo, some handlebars a bunch of brackets and bits and bolts. The big items that are missing are the seat and the clutch like I mentioned above. Other than that the bike is pretty complete. When I was getting this bike together I estimed about 2,000 in parts to get this thing running, added to the purchase price + your labor of love, you have your self a pretty nice pre unit especially compaired to what these things are going for now. I think the bike would make a real sweet bobber with a weld on hard tail or a cool cafe racer. Going original would be tough with the nacelle parts being hard to find. Clearly the bike is a basket case and not for the faint of heart or the novice enthusiast. Starting price is just that - no reserve auction; bid to win. And please, ask questions as I will be happy to try and answer as best I can.

MPG or BHP?
Thu, 05 Jan 2012If you were a child of the seventies, you may remember Craig Vetter’s name from his previous work as a stylist (Triumph Hurricane) or his huge fairing business, Vetter Fairings. Since then, the 69 year-old industrial designer has become obsessed by fuel consumption - or rather highlighting how poor motorcycles are delivering impressive figures. He originally ran a series of fuel challenges in the eighties and now the economy has taken a nose dive, he has resurrected the competition, figuring that the time is now right to highlight these issues again. According to Vetter, three of every four American gallons of petrol is imported – reason enough to devote his time to raising awareness.
