Suzuki Other description

For your consideration, a beautiful low-mileage, completely unrestored GT380 in fine running condition, ready to ride or show. Originally purchased in Lowell, MA, this motorcycle was kept by the original owner for 26 years. During this time he covered just 996 miles before giving it to his grand-daughter in 2002. She covered a further 219 miles over the following 8 years before I bought it in 2010. I have added almost 300 miles to the total, which currently stands at 1,509 miles.

The bike is amazingly original throughout; the vast majority of bolts and fittings have never been touched since the bike was first assembled. New tires and tubes have been fitted, along with a quality Yuasa battery. The carbs were removed, professionally cleaned and rebuilt with original parts (jets, floats, gaskets, o-rings etc) sourced from Japan. At the same time I fitted a Pingle petock and in-line filter, but the original vacuum petcock is included in the sale.  Everything else is absolutely as Suzuki intended, including the correct mirrors (with the embossed 'S' logo), all the original warning decals, grips, footrest rubbers and chain.

The paintwork is virtually unmarked, except for a couple of small chips on the front seam of the tank, caused when removing the tank from the frame. The seat cover has no marks, rips or loose seams and is nice and supple. All the electrics work correctly, including the lights, horn, turn signals, brake lights and digital gear indicator. The suspension and brakes are perfect and the whole bike has a nice, tight 'new bike' feel. A few of the cadmium-plated fittings, such as the handlebar switch bolts and two of the turn signal bolts have some light corrosion, nothing too serious and likely to improve with polishing.

The motor runs very smoothly, starting from cold with one or two kicks. It pulls well, with no vibration and very little smoke due to Suzuki's crankcase recirculating system for excess two-storke oil. The motor was originally a silver lacquer, but most of this has been polished off over the years. , The bare alloy surface has not been re-polished, which is something the new owner may wish to do. The ram-air cooling shield also has some peeling lacquer, due to water getting under the finish and causing it to discolor and peel.

The exhaust system is in great condition; no dents or scratches and the chrome polishes up very well. The top surface of the lower right-hand muffler has some slight pitting; hard to see and even harder to photograph. The headers are in exceptional condition; the cylinder-head mounting clamps have some light corrosion.

The wheels are true and have exceptionally good chrome. The front disc brake looks almost like new, but the fork legs also suffer from discoloration of the lacquer and the front fender has some pitting to the chrome finish. It's hard to show in the photographs, but you will probably want to improve this part. The rest of the chrome is good, except for a few spots on the back of the headlight bucket. Again, hard to see and only visible if you look really closely.

The bike will be sold with a clear, open Massachusetts Title and a Bill of Sale. I can deliver the bike free of charge (in my enclosed trailer) to the Barber Vintage Weekend in October, provided I receive 100% payment within 5 days of the auction end. I can also store the bike for approximately 30 days if you wish to arrange your own transport, but please give me reasonable notice prior to collection (i.e. 3-4 days) as I will need to arrange my work schedule to accommodate your shipper.

Please ask questions or ask for additional photographs if you want to see any specific detail more clearly.

Suzuki Unveils New Bandit 650 Range

Sat, 08 Nov 2008

In our ongoing coverage of everything worth covering and talking about and beating to death that happened at EICMA, Suzuki unveiled a new Bandit 650 range in Milan earlier this week. Both the 650 and 650SA models received styling and practical updates that bring a new sharp and dynamic look to the 2009 middleweight class. With new edgy styling, the naked Bandit 650 is headlined by sleeker modern headlights, and newly styled mirrors that make it resemble an angry bunny rabbit.

AMA Supercross: 2012 Arlington Results

Tue, 21 Feb 2012

Defending champion Ryan Villopoto won his third consecutive AMA Supercross race in Arlington, Texas, but the victory was overshadowed by a season-ending injury suffered by one of his main challengers Chad Reed. TwoTwo Motorsport Honda‘s Reed trailed Villopoto in second place for the first six laps at Cowboys Stadium. Disaster struck on Lap 7 however as Reed crashed hard in the whoops.

Piaggio, Suzuki Hit with Fines by CARB

Mon, 01 Apr 2013

The California Air Resources Board has agreed to settlements with Suzuki and Piaggio for selling motorcycles that the companies did not disclose could be modified to exceed the state’s strict emission standards. Suzuki was hit with the larger of the two penalties, agreeing to a fine of $3,020,000, though the amount could be reduced by $1,812,000 if Suzuki follows certain provisions. The penalty is in addition to the previous fine of $885,000 levied by the Environmental Protection Agency for selling 25,396 LT-R450 ATVs and 62 RMX450Z dirtbikes with a racing map programmed into their ECUs that was not certified or tested. This racing map is not initially accessible to customers, unless they buy aftermarket devices to unlock the higher-performance engine mapping.
