Suzuki Other description

This is a blue 1975 Suzuki RE-5 Rotary in good running condition with 17,948 miles. Only around 6,300 RE-5'S were produced. Suzuki commissioned Italian industrial designer Giorgetto Giugiaro for the RE5 styling. The "tin can" instrument cluster encompassed the usual lights and a low-fuel warning light, total loss oil tank light and digital gear indicator. The tubular "can" motif was also used in the tail light, and spherical indicator lights finished off the "rotary" theme.

The engine is a 497cc liquid-cooled single rotor Wankel rotary engine. The engine has two oiling systems, two ignition systems and even two cooling systems. All of this, it turns out, is necessary to keep the rotary engine happy as it runs from idle to speed; the cooling systems — one liquid and the other oil — keep the rotary from self-destructing from the heat it generates. Primary power transfer to the clutch and transmission is by duplex chain. There is a hesitation when you get on the throttle fast.

The original paint is blue and black with normal, minor wear and signs of its age. There is a noticeable scratch on the gas tank (shown in pictures). The green "can" is slightly cloudy due to age. It has a pod that flips open when you turn the key which is original to the RE5. The RE5 offered handling unlike that of any Japanese motorcycle of the era, and is ready to ride.

The bike is located in Indianapolis and we encourage inspections.

2013 AMA Supercross Anaheim 2 Race Report

Mon, 21 Jan 2013

Ryan Villopoto claimed his first win of the 2013 AMA Supercross season and his first since the knee injury at last year’s Seattle round that kept him out of the 2012 AMA Motocross championship. The victory in front of 37,789 fans at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., made up for his disappointing 16th place finish two weeks earlier at the same site. His Monster Energy Kawasaki teammate Jake Weimer held the early advantage in the main event, taking the holeshot ahead of the Honda Muscle Milk duo of Justin Barcia and Trey Canard.

AMA Supercross: 2012 New Orleans Results

Mon, 16 Apr 2012

Ryan Villopoto has already secured the 2012 AMA Supercross Championship but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to let up and take it easy over the remainder of the season. The Monster Energy Kawasaki racer clinched his second consecutive title two weeks ago in Houston, Texas, but he continued his dominance in AMA Supercross’ return to New Orleans’ Superdome, taking the holeshot and leading all 20 laps for his ninth win of the season in 14 rounds. The New Orleans round may have lacked some big names currently nursing injuries such as Ryan Dungey, James Stewart and Chad Reed, but Villopoto provided a star effort in the first AMA Supercross race in the city since 2009.

Are Motorcycles Safer With Antilock Brakes?

Tue, 30 Dec 2008

A new report says riders with ABS-equipped bikes can dramatically reduce the chance of a fatal accident. The study compared fatality rates among riders on bikes that have antilock brakes, and it found that death rates were 38% lower on motorcycles equipped with the optional ABS systems compared to non-ABS bikes. In 2005-2006, the fatal crashes per 10,000 registered motorcycles without antilock brakes was 6.6.
