Suzuki Prepares For Season Finale LeMans 24hr Endurance Race

The Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, or SERT, has had a rough 2014 endurance season. The defending champions haven’t scored a single victory this year, but are hoping its fortunes turn for them during this weekend’s season finale: the grueling 24 hours of LeMans. Yes, motorcycles participate in this classic race, but the course configuration is entirely different from what the car guys use. Volkswagen Buys 20 Percent Share in Suzuki

Months of rumors and a more credible report yesterday have culminated in the official news that Volkswagen will take a 20 percent share in Japanese automaker Suzuki, worth $2.5 billion. Volkswagen has its sights set on becoming the world’s largest automaker and with Suzuli’s small-car expertise, it hopes to make a large expansion into developing markets, like India. The news comes just a day after VW officially took a 49.9 percent stake in Porsche.

Suzuka Eight Hour capers

Chatting to TT legend John McGuiness recently about his first Suzuka Eight Hour experience got me thinking of a few capers the boys and me managed a few years back at what is still Japan's most important race of the season. It is a unique event that starts at 11am and finishes at 7pm making  it a pukka endurance race as the last hour is run with headlights on in the dark. It is essentially an eight hour sprint that showcases the trickest endurance machinery and manufacturer’s sales can be affected the following year depending on who wins or loses.
