History

First owner bought new in State of NY. Rode it to Champaign, IL and was a student at the U of I. Had some work done on the place he lived in and couldn’t come up with the money to pay for the project so used it to pay the second owner, Bill, in 1985. It had 13,435 miles on it. Bill rode it 7,000 miles since 1985!

Condition

Good tank, on the inside. Outside is has a few small scratches and has a dent or two. Has a 3" tear in the right side of the seat. Has a KG luggage rack back rest, period correct!. It is missing the dust cover on the rear brake caliper which does not affect braking but looks unfinished. It needs new tires before you ride the Iron Butt Rally, a new chain (at some point), and new mufflers (included!), A new choke cable will cure the friction lock issue. Also has a European headlight switch. You can actually shut the headlight off. How novel! It works fine, but needs the thumb pad. Runs well... it’s a six speed and even the gear number display on the dash works!  All lights and electrics work.

Mechanical

In summer of 2013 at 20,400 miles:

adjusted valves (w/ new valve cover gasket)

carbs disassembled and ultrasonically cleaned

installed new carb kits and manifold boots

synched carbs

installed cam chain

installed new rear shocks

changed fork oil, installed 1" preload spacers

changed all fuses

cleaned, sanded and greased all electrical connections

installed new battery

changed oil and filter

cleaned / re-oiled air filter

pulled and cleaned, lubed speedo and tach cable

changed brake fluid

also included are a new set of Mac Seca mufflers still in their plastic packaging that will be included in the sale

The World Endurance Championship Starts This Weekend

Wed, 23 Apr 2014

Endurance racing is perhaps the ultimate test of both man and machine. In the past, teams would pace themselves in order to rest both elements enough to make a final push at the end. These days, however, motorcycles are more reliable than ever, and riders train like triathletes.

General Motors Dumps Suzuki

The rumors had been flying. Speculation swirled but many didn’t think it would actually happen. It was recently confirmed that the breakup is in fact official.

Get down on your knees and play

This remarkable shot of Eddie Lawson is taken by Rich Chenet. It was August 1980 and Lawson was undergoing a titanic scrap for the AMA title with Wes Cooley and Freddie Spencer here at Pocono Raceway in Philladelphia. The circuit is known as the 'Tricky Triangle' amongst the NASCAR drivers but the superbikes used a mix of infield and sections of the banked circuit.
