Suzuki GS description

For sale 1979 Suzuki GS1000. ODO say 60,739 miles. The motor has considerably less I just don't know the actual number. I will do my best to detail the parts that are on this bike, and what will come with the bike.

Bike is partially disassembled as can be seen. I bought this from a guy that was adding the GSXR suspension on to it. As can be seen in the pictures I also have all the “stock” parts. As I will detail shortly the stock parts are much, much improved parts that just appear stock. I’m selling because in all honesty I cant decide do I continue with the GSXR suspension and wheels finishing what he started, or revert back to these stock-ish parts and have a very cool period racer. I have so many other projects going on in the garage that this decision is starting to give me an ulcer so I’ve decided to see if there is someone else that would like this project, these parts. I have no intention of parting this out its all or nothing.

The GSXR parts included are –

·       2007 GSXR750 front end. Complete with brakes, wheel, switch gear, fender. Has an LSL handlebar conversion top triple. Brand new tire no miles, 3 months ago.

·       2008 GSXR750 rear wheel. New tire no miles, 3 months ago. – This has been adapted for the GS1000 drive, the cush drive gets machined to and has custom spacers and bearings. The wheel has no permanent changes that would mean you couldn’t use it back on a GSXR again. Has GSXR1000 rear brake, this isn’t completed yet the spacer needed to adapt just needs made.

·       The front countershaft sprocket is designed to be used with the 180 rear tire.

Now if you want to take this back to stock-ish again everything is there to do it with. I will detail the parts that are very much period correct race/performance upgrades that are installed in the motor or included that you could put back on.

·       This motor has a big bore kit in it. It is 11xx cc’s, the owner wasn’t sure of the exact size. What he did know is it is a Yoshimura kit. Hopefully if you are looking at this you understand what that means, they no longer make these are really the ones they did back in the day were for racers. Not a kit just anybody has. Now to be clear I have not taken the head off to prove it is a Yoshimura kit, and have no intention to. I can only say that all the other parts I’m about to detail you can clearly see they are what I say they are so I believe this to be fact.

·       Yoshimura cams. These are almost impossible to find, I’ve looked for a couple months to see a value and have never found another one, let alone a set. I have included pictures of the cams to show they are not pitted and that you can very clearly see POPY on the cams. Again if you are looking at this bike I hope you know this is Pops Yoshimura’s stamp they put on their cams. I know there are 3 levels on cams Yoshimura made back then for the GS1000 racers but I honestly don’t know what they are or which these are. I took some measurements using a caliper as you see the cams, I did not pull them out. These could be measured wrong, or I did something else wrong and don’t know how to correctly check them but – Intake cam base circle – 21.45mm, full lobe 37.33. Exhaust cam base circle – 21.55, full lobe 36.71. Value of these is very high.

·       Yoshimura oil cooler. I have included a picture showing the POPY imprint on the oil valve at the motor under the carbs. You can get an oil cooler for the GS motors of course but not one made by Yoshimura since they stopped making/selling them years ago.

·       Bassani exhaust. The logo/badge has been removed but I had an old GS750 years ago that I had a Bassani on and this looks identical. It may be something else but sure looks to be Bassani to me.

·       Has an aluminum swing arm. I have done a ton of looking and cannot find a badge on the swing arm, and from what I can find on the internet it was made by a company out of California that went out of business years ago. Looks to be exceptional quality with the welds, and the eccentric adjusters for the rear wheel. This is not a re-purposed stock swing arm it’s a custom made piece.

·       Mikuni VM29 smoothbore carbs. I have included a couple pictures showing the large blow drain bolts and the carbs themselves. Very expensive, as of the day I listed this I see one set for sale here on EBay at almost $900.

·       The stock front end is included. But the front end has some upgrades.

o   The front brakes are Performance Machine 4 piston, 4 pad upgraded brakes with custom brackets. The front rotors are not stock Suzuki but I don’t know who’s they are, they are performance floating rotors.

·       The front and rear wheels are DID aluminum rims laced to the stock hubs. I have never been able to find a similar set of aluminum rims like these. I couldn’t even guess what they cost. The rear is wider then stock. Front is a 18 x 2.50, the rear is 18 x 3.50. Both wheels are much lighter than the stock GS1000 steel wheels that I can tell you. I included pictures of the wheel stampings to show manufacturer and size. The front tire is crap and would need replaced. The rear still holds air and doesn’t look to bad, your call to keep it or replace it.

      Has Tarrozi rear sets installed in the pictures, the stock parts are included.

The gas tank looks very nice with no dents or significant scratches that I notice. Seat looks the same, very nice with no tears.

I have included some additional pictures of all the extra parts that come with the bike. There are various covers for the motor, parts for the clutch to include a used basket, the stock gauges, stock carbs.


Look over the pictures. Everything seen in them is included except the Digital dash that will not be going with the bike, if you win the auction and want that dash maybe we can figure something out but I really intend to use it on my Ducati Monster. If you want more information please ask and I will do my best to answer it. If you need more detailed pictures of anything on the bike let me know, please understand I will not disassemble it for verification but short of that will do what I can to help make sure you get the visuals you request.

Now saying all that please understand I have listed this with all the available information I have to the best of my ability. I am by no means an expert of GS1000’s or these very rare parts so if you want more information let me know but the bike is selling as you see in the pictures so if you like what you see bid on it. If you know something about the parts you see and I am wrong about my descriptions I really would appreciate your letting me know, as I mentioned I’m no expert so I could be mistaken. I will not disclose my reserve price, I ask you don’t inquire as to what it is suffice to say I believe I have priced it fairly. If it doesn’t sell I may need to reevaluate my price point.

I have the title, its from the original owner from California. It is signed by him but is dated 2011. Don't know if this matters but I want to include everything.

I do ask that you please have permission from your wife, girlfriend, mom, dog, whoever you need that you are allowed to spend money. I also ask you do your research before bidding/buying not after. I'm listing this to sell it and hope if you are bidding on it you are doing so to buy it, not to ask permission to buy it only to find out that, no you're not allowed to make those kinds of decisions on your own. Motorcycle Thefts Down 11.2% in 2010

Motorcycle thefts in the U.S. are down for the fourth consecutive year in 2010,  according to a report from the National Insurance Crime Bureau. There were 49,791 reported motorcycle thefts in 2010, an 11.2% drop from the 56,093 thefts reported in 2009.

Eric Bostrom to Race TTXGP for Brammo at Laguna Seca

Eric Bostrom has signed on to ride the Brammo Empulse RR in the electric motorcycle race at Laguna Seca July 28-29. The race is the final stop on the TTXGP‘s North American series and a joint event with the FIM’s ePower series. The AMA racing veteran will join Steve Atlas to represent Team Icon Brammo at Laguna Seca.
