1940 Other Makes Standard Sport Rex 350 (1940)
1940 Standard Sport Rex 350
Rolling chassis -- engine, frame, wheels, handlebars -- of the super-rare Standard, made in Germany. Company president Wilhelm Gutbrod founded Standard Fahrzeugfabrik in 1926, eventually moving the company to the city of Plochingen, where he produced motorcycles & cars. This is the Sport Rex 350 model with optional rear swingarm-plunger arrangement, making the Standard the first German bike to be equipped with modern rear suspension. Front suspension is by Standard's girder design. The engine, a twin-port, inclined-cylinder ohv single with bevel-shaft valve actuation, is largely complete, missing the rocker covers, bevel/shaft & magneto.
