1972 Other Makes Rickman-Montesa 125 (1972)
Special build Rickman frame modified to fit a 125 Montesa VA motor to replace the Zundapp motor. I checked through AHRMA and it looks like it would have to run sportsman class, but I did not contact AHRMA about like design models. The VA motors are just a lightly modified Cota 123. I have had both engines apart to compare. The porting is the biggest difference. I adapted the Zundapp up-pipe with a special exhaust manifold. The nickel plating was mostly gone when I found the frame, and the was painted with a very hard paint in an off silver color. This Rickman was built from the ground up with mostly new old stock or very nice used parts. The motor was rebuilt, but not modified. Every part on the bike was cleaned and rebuilt. Curnutt shocks were like new when purchased, wheels were laced with new spokes, fiberglass front fender is NOS, rear was NOS in red, but the blue color used was not right. It starts right up and shifts great. Zundapp's were not the best shifting motors, so this is definitely an upgrade in that respect. It's not super fast, like a CR or KX of the era, but it really handles nice. Much like a bigger bike with a lot less weight.
