Other Panzer Captain America description
2001 Panzer Captain America, Known as 'Captain America', the Harley-Davidson chopper ridden by Peter Fonda in the iconic movie 'Easy Rider' is one of the most readily identifiable motorcycles ever made. Since the movie's release in 1968 there have been countless replicas made, usually by individual customisers or enthusiasts, but a few years ago an American motorcycle manufacturer decided to put its own version into limited production. In creating their 'Captain America' replica, Panzer Motorcycle Works was able to call on the resources of a sizeable industry of engine and component manufacturers devoted to producing their own Harley-style motors. Panzer's 90ci (1,500cc) Neo-Pan unit is sourced from specialist engine builders, Accurate Engineering of Dohan, Alabama and incorporates crankcases, crankshaft, rods, cylinders and pistons from S&S, and STD cylinder heads. The frame and most of the cycle parts come from Paughco, so it made sense for the Captain to be assembled by them rather than at Panzer's factory in Canyon City, Colorado. Almost inevitably, there have been some departures from the original movie bike's specification, Panzer's version incorporating a RevTech five-speed gearbox, belt final drive, disc brakes and an electric starter in the interests of improved performance and practicality, as well as other changes to conform with Federal traffic laws.
