DESCRIPTION
We are please to present this rare motorized bicycle, fresh from a private museum collection. Appears to be all original paint, seat, and rear tire, it is a running and driving example with new front tire and tube. The Bicycle is a 50’s era J.C. Higgins make. Sold at Sears from the 50’s to the 70’s, the J.C. Higgins bike is a fantastic find by itself! In addition to the bicycle is a 50’s era “POWERBIKE” motorized conversion. The Powerbike was a self-contained motorized unit that you could attach to any bicycle of the time without cutting or altering the bikes frame. Each kit came with a 1.5hp Briggs and Stratton gasoline engine, kick starter, fuel tank, automatic clutch drive, and throttle cable. Safety was engineered into the system with an internal speed control set to 32mph. It was advertized as a simple and economical mode of transport offering 80mpg in the city and over 100mpg on the open road! Comes with original brochure for the Powerbike.
