If you are interested in a vintage unrestored classic British motorcycle, I think this is as good as it will ever get. Any nicer ones are sitting in someone's museum. Other than setting the timing, cleaning carbs, adjusting clutch, and plug and oil changes this bike has never been worked on - by anyone! It has zero oil leaks and has always been garaged. It starts easily, and runs exactly like new. Most of the visible wear is the result of cleaning and washing over the years. Here are the details:
1) Purchased new by me in Atlanta, GA, September, 1972.
2) Serial number 210426; mfr date: June, 1972. Combat engine. Yes, the head is stamped with "C" under headsteady. Note: It may or may not have superblend bearings installed by the factory, but I don't know. There are some that believe the factory installed them starting at # 207198. Fiberglass tank & side covers. Tank is NOT coated; no ethanol gas has ever been in this tank. I used only Sunoco 100 octane until 1988, and 100 octane LL aviation fuel since then.
3) Original factory tools and tool bag still in bike.

5) What is NOT original:
Mirrors: currently has two bar-end mirrors installed 1972. Originally had one mirror only, left side - long gone.
Center stand had a reinforcing plate welded on by dealer (their recommendation) in 1972, when purchased.
Posidrive screws holding left Lucas switch assembly to bars replaced with allen cap heads, 1972. Originals were chewed up, probably by dealer mechanic adjusting/installing handle bars.
Tires: currently "new" (25 years old) Avon "Roadrunner"AM9100/90H19 on rear, less than 1500 miles on it; installed 1988. Front tire is original Avon GP 4.10 H 19.
Battery: long gone; replaced several times, most recently spring 2013
Spark plugs: currently NKG BP7ES. Originals replaced 1974, 2008, 2013.
Rockerfeed oil line to head replaced with new/old stock in 2008
Spin-on oil filter; replaced 1972, 1978, 1986, 2008.
Front brake line replaced with new/old stock in 2008
Battery hold-down straps are new/old stock purchased 1988.
Decals on tank and side covers replaced 2008.
Air filter element. New paper filter 2013.
Rubber "gaiters" from carbs to air filter front plate, 2008.
Adapter ring - carb to gaiter - one was lost when servicing carbs in 2008 - and replaced with new recently .
Fuel taps: plastic stems broken, both sides, 2008. Used small screwdriver to open/close until I replaced both 2013 with UK-made reproductions.
Carb gasket(s), needle valves & floats, and fuel filters in banjos replaced 1986, 2008, and 2013
Top throttle cable replaced 2013
Master cylinder serviced (not sleeved), with new seals and bellows, 1986, 2008 & 2013; rubber boot covering front brake switch replaced 2013.
Caliper serviced and new seals installed 1986, 2008 & 2013
Note: the handlebars on this bike are not the wide "U.S." style that were on it in the showroom. I wanted a lower rider's position, so the dealer installed the current bars. I don't know what they are. They appear to be the "continental" style inverted.
Many of the pictures are with tank and seat off so you can see details. Also, the pictures show both the original fuel lines and damaged taps, and the after-market fuel line I keep on the bike for road use. There is also a pic showing the new fuel taps now on the bike.You can also see the small chip in the tank, a worn spot on left peashooter where the center stand rubs, and the center stand reinforcement.
Bike is located in Richmond, VA, and is available for inspection by appointment.

Production of 650cc Norton models will start at the end of next year
Tue, 17 Nov 2020In addition to the release of V4 and Commando models, the British plan to expand their lineup. The Norton V4 and Commando motorcycles, presented to the public in 2018, will not start rolling off the assembly line until the end of 2021. This is primarily due to the fact that Norton, owned by the Indian company TVS, is currently busy transferring production from Donnington Hall to Solihull.
11 Teams Still in Running to Enter MotoGP in 2012 Season
Thu, 19 May 2011The International Motorcycling Federation announced 11 teams have passed the latest round of applications for the 2012 MotoGP season. MotoGP promoter Dorna and the International Road Racing Teams Association selected 11 new teams representing 16 riders to continue with the application process for the 2012 season. Applicants submitted detailed plans for participation to the IRTA by May 14.
The first Norton to roll off the assembly line in 2021 will be Commando
Wed, 23 Dec 2020The British company plans to produce 40 motorcycles of this model, most of which have already been prepaid. And only after the end of the story with Commando, the company will move on to the assembly of the V4 model, and then the two long-awaited Atlases. According to the company's management, the new model, Norton Atlas, currently still requires a number of final fine-tuning works before the start of mass production.
