ZX-10R inspired by JPS Lotus?

Tue, 10 Jul 2012

Spotted on Kawasaki's Facebook page, this 'Limited Edition' ZX-10R has been created by none other than double-F1 World Champ Emerson Fittipaldi, who is - amongst other things - a Kawasaki dealer in Brazil and who also happened to win his first World Championship in 1972 in a JPS Lotus that had a very similar colour scheme. Fittipaldi started his motorsport career on a motorcycle, aged just 14, before heading to hydrofoils (surely no-one else at world level has ever raced these?!) and then the more traditional route of karting. The name Matt Cuddy should need no introduction to Motorcycle.com readers. Not only does he have more than 5,000 posts on our forum, he’s also written dirt bike tests for us, including the 2010 and 2011 Kawasaki KX450F reviews. Making this accomplishment more noteworthy is the fact that Matt is a paraplegic – he was hit by a car several years ago while riding his motorcycle.

Retro-styling on a middleweight favorite. Credit: Photos by Kevin Wing “I’m not a fan of the Darth Vader looks.” It’s a line we hear often whenever we test one of Kawasaki’s sporty bikes, especially from the Z family of naked bikes. Internally known as the Sugomi design language, Kawasaki says “Someone, or something, possessing sugomi inspires awe, leaves an indelible impression, is daunting in stature or ability, and commands respect.” Maybe it does, or maybe it doesn’t, but angular lines and sharp creases also alienate a section of the motorcycling world who like the modern tech and power from Kawasaki’s Z line, but could do without the sugomi styling.
