KTM Teases New 1290 Naked Prototype Ahead of EICMA – Is This the New Super Duke?

KTM has released pictures of a new 1290cc naked prototype, the so-called “Beast” whose engine roar KTM revealed earlier in the week. To be officially unveiled next week at the 2012 EICMA show, the new model is still unnamed, though judging by the brief glimpses of its styling and the KTM North American dealer meeting slide that leaked earlier this year, we’re pretty sure this new prototype will eventually become the KTM 1290 Super Duke. Riding KTMs on Ice – Video

Much of Europe has been absolutely hammered by ice and snow over the last couple of weeks, with some places like Rome momentarily banning motorcycles and scooters from public roads due to safety concerns. The cold snap didn’t stop the people behind the Dutch site Oliepeil.nl from having a little fun with the help of KTM. Oliepeil.nl took a KTM 500 EXC dirt bike, a  525 XC ATV and a KTM X-Bow car onto a frozen area in the Heteren region of the Netherlands for some ice riding.

You know it’s a tough race when less than 2% of the starters make it to the finish. That’s what happened this Sunday at Austria’s Iron Mountain for the 2012 Red Bull Hare Scramble. KTM factory rider Jonny Walker was the first of just seven competitors to make it to the top in the 3.5-hour time limit out of a field of 500 entries.
