Overview
KTM 450 XC-W
The KTM 450 XC-W is without doubt one of the best motorcycles in its class. Compact design, easy maintenance and outstanding robustness at a minimum weight - these are the characteristics of the SOHC engine. Together with the EFI system from Keihin, this bike is unrivalled in performance and rideability - specially designed for enduro bikes.
Cylinder head
KTM 450 XC-W
The sohc cylinder head is equipped with an overhead camshaft that actuates the titanium intake valves and steel exhaust valves. The whole configuration has been perfectly tuned to the keihin efi system for outstanding rideability and performance of the 2013 ktm 450 xc-w.
EFI / EMS
KTM 450 XC-W
The engine management system from keihin with electronic fuel injection and 42 mm (1.65 in) throttle body ensures spontaneous, powerful responsiveness and handling, along with maximum performance. Automatic temperature and altitude compensation are state of the art.
Clutch
KTM 450 XC-W
The one-piece outer clutch hub with primary gear is machined from a single piece of high-strength steel. This guarantees unbeatable reliability and contributes to narrow engine width with its compact, rivetless design. It also allows the use of thin steel discs, making the overall clutch package very compact. A diaphragm spring enables implementation of an additional hub damping mechanism - a benefit in terms of traction and gearbox durability. In conjunction with the diaphragm spring, the hydraulic clutch actuation system from brembo ensures very smooth and very precise clutch control.
Frame
KTM 450 XC-W
In keeping with ktm tradition, the frames are made from high quality, lightweight, chromoly steel profiles. In conjunction with the rear pds damping system, they are designed for optimum absorption of shocks introduced into the frame by the rear wheel. In response to the trend for aluminum frames

RSVP from an RSV4
Wed, 08 Sep 2010Aprilia’s RSV4 Factory has to be one of the most interesting and adrenaline-inducing literbikes around, and that’s just part of why we gave it an Honorable Mention in our Best of 2010 Sportbike category. We recently had opportunity to put on a poor but passing Max Biaggi imitation with one particularly fine example. This RSV comes courtesy of our friend Kaming Ko, who often helps us on test rides.
Movie: The John Penton Story
Wed, 06 Mar 2013John Penton was one of the most influential figures in the development of off-road motorcycle racing in America during the 1960s and ’70s. His life’s story is triumphant and tragic. When his attempts to convince Husqvarna to produce a smaller, lighter motorcycle fell on deaf ears, Penton created his own design and commissioned KTM, a small moped and bicycle maker in Austria, to build it. The motorcycle was an instant success in off-road competition and led KTM to expand its efforts in the motorcycle realm, initially in conjunction with Penton and ultimately on its own.
