KTM Other description
Here is a very clean, almost completely restored 1984 KTM 495! It is a very clean bike with lots of new parts! The previous owner did alot of the restoration work and it can be ridden as is. The bike again is very clean and would only take a little more work to get to the restoration level I would consider a complete restoration. I purchased the bike in hopes of riding it at Unadilla this past year, but after receiving it I found out that the suspension would have to be rebuilt and there was a small oil leak at either one of the gaskets or at the drain plug. It still van be ridden. There are no cracks visible anywhere on the under side of the engine so it appears to be possibly coming from those two areas. I was planning on working on it over the winter to get it ready for next year's race, but I have way too many incomplete projects as it stands now and need to clear some space from my garage. I hate to sell it because since I am a collector and do restorations it would be an inexpensive and time saving project, but I need room and already have too many projects. So here is a list of new parts that have been installed on this bike. 1. New tires front and rear, 2. New chain and sprockets, 3. New handle bars and grips, 4. New authentic KTM seat cover, A new $900.00 custom exhaust pipe (hard to find). I appears that the plastic may have been painted, but looks like a nice job. Gas tank has been painted but looks good. The frame has a dent on the bottom of the frame and it looks like it was touched up painted but looks good. The original owner painted the spokes, the rims, front forks, rear shock and swing arm with the correct color paint. I would not have done this, but I understand why they did it and it looks good. Also I believe all of the bearings (Wheel, steering, swing arm and engine) have not been changed out, but everything seems pretty tight. The engine runs (I have not run it) but I viewed it running in a video they sent me. Overall it is as I said a clean bike and if someone wanted to ride it they could. I am a perfectionist so if I was going to race it I would at least need to rebuild the suspension. All the rest of the items could be done over a period of time. I have given to the best of my abilities the best description of this bike I could and have been truthful and forth coming with anything I could have knowledge of. **I paid over $3500.00 for this bike as it stands and I have set a fair reserve on this bike. It is less than I paid for it, and is more than fair. Movie: The John Penton Story
Wed, 06 Mar 2013John Penton was one of the most influential figures in the development of off-road motorcycle racing in America during the 1960s and ’70s. His life’s story is triumphant and tragic. When his attempts to convince Husqvarna to produce a smaller, lighter motorcycle fell on deaf ears, Penton created his own design and commissioned KTM, a small moped and bicycle maker in Austria, to build it. The motorcycle was an instant success in off-road competition and led KTM to expand its efforts in the motorcycle realm, initially in conjunction with Penton and ultimately on its own.
2013 AMA Supercross Minneapolis Race Report
Mon, 15 Apr 2013Hometown hero Ryan Dungey put a stop to Ryan Villopoto‘s winning streak, taking the victory before 48,846 supportive fans at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. The Red Bull KTM rider from nearby Belle Plaine, Minn., stalked Monster Energy Kawasaki‘s Villopoto for most of the race before taking the lead and winning the 20-lap race by just 0.903 seconds. The win put Dungey into second place in the standings ahead of Rockstar Suzuki‘s Davi Millsaps and perhaps more importantly, cut away at Villopoto’s points lead.
