In 1998, the trademarks were awarded to a group of investors who formed a new company based in Gilroy, California.Three models were made during this era:Scout / Spirit: These were the ''small'' bikes which used a common frame and S&S engine. The Scout was ''sporty'', while Spirit targeted light touring.The Chief was the flagship bike. It had its own larger chassis, and was powered by the first new Indian proprietary engine in 50 years, the Power Plus 100. Unfortunately, the Power Plus 100 was plagued by reliability issues.In September of 2003, Indian Motorcycle in Gilroy California declared bankruptcy and ceased operations. ring. The Bajaj Pulsar 200NS (Naked Sport) is shares many of the same components of the also recently launched KTM Duke 200, but with a few cost-cutting measures. Bajaj, of course, owns a 39.26% share of KTM so such crossover of technology should be expected.KTM will be positioned as a premium brand while the Bajaj brand will be presented as a more-affordable alternative.
NASCAR Truck Star Rides Indian Chief
Sat, 14 Feb 2009Three-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion Ron Hornaday recently took delivery of his 2009 Indian Chief Vintage at Indian Motorcycle Charlotte. Hornaday’s top-of-the-line black & burgundy Vintage was built to his specifications and features optional painted rims, black leather saddlebags and seat with fringed leather. Hornaday mentioned that one of his favorite photos is of his father, a racing legend himself, seated on an Indian Chief, just before he sold it to go into the Army.
Polaris Reports Q3 2013 Sales Results
Mon, 28 Oct 2013Polaris Industries topped the $1 billion mark in sales for the first time in company history during the third quarter. Total sales revenue totaled $1.1 billion in the quarter, up 25.3% from $879.9 million reported in the same quarter last year. “Our record third quarter results reflect both the ongoing demand for our existing products and the potential contained within the initial shipments of our model year 2014 vehicles, the largest new product introduction in the company’s history,” says Scott Wine, chief executive officer of Polaris Industries.
