In 1998, the trademarks were awarded to a group of investors who formed a new company based in Gilroy, California.Three models were made during this era:Scout / Spirit: These were the ''small'' bikes which used a common frame and S&S engine. The Scout was ''sporty'', while Spirit targeted light touring.The Chief was the flagship bike. It had its own larger chassis, and was powered by the first new Indian proprietary engine in 50 years, the Power Plus 100. Unfortunately, the Power Plus 100 was plagued by reliability issues.In September of 2003, Indian Motorcycle in Gilroy California declared bankruptcy and ceased operations. ring. Founded in 1919, many famous Italian racers got their starts on Garelli motorcycles.
Polaris Reveals All-New Indian Thunder Stroke 111 Engine
Mon, 11 Mar 2013Indian Motorcycle revealed its all-new Thunder Stroke 111 engine, the first engine developed under its new Polaris Industries ownership and the powerplant for the 2014 model year. According to Polaris, the Thunder Stroke 111 engine has already undergone over a million miles of testing, including thousands of miles of on-road testing. Polaris deserves some credit for developing an all-new engine for Indian Motorcycle instead of just re-using the 106ci Freedom V-Twin engine used in the current Victory Motorcycles lineup.
