Honda Gold Wing description
For all you wing lovers, here is a rare opportunity
to get an original unmolested 1983 Classic.
The story as told to me, is that this bike sat in
air conditioned storage for more than 25 years. The original owner only rode it
for a year before becoming ill, and putting the bike away where it soon became
forgotten. It was eventually recovered by his grandson who stored it in his
garage with the intention of restoring it. The grandson, under pressure from
his wife to clear the garage, eventually
decided that he no longer had the time or inclination to continue the project.
And so it came to me.
It's a very good looking bike and I was immediately
taken with its potential. It didn't run but it was obvious that underneath the
dust lay something special. The gauges and handlebar controls showed no signs
of aging and the paint still had a deep luster with very few blemishes.
I sent the bike to a repair shop to get it back to
life. A new battery was added ($150), the oil and filter were changed, all
electrics checked, gas tank flushed and cleaned, and an infusion of fuel line
cleaner left to do its magic. The bike eventually started but it's now obvious
that the carbs have become gummed up and need removing and cleaning. The bike
will start with choke but will not idle. I had it on the freeway at 75mph and
it was lovely and smooth, everything working as expected. It does not overheat,
the cooling fan operates when needed, and the clutch, transmission and final
drive all work smoothly. Even the overdrive indicator lights up in top gear. I
hoped that running the bike for a while would loosen whatever was blocking the
carbs but the idle jets are still blocked and the carbs will need to be
removed. That's a problem for me.
Since purchasing this bike, my marital situation has
changed and I no longer have the time or resources necessary to give this bike
the attention it needs so I am reluctantly offering it for sale.
With only 12,600 miles on the clock, and few
cosmetic issues, this is a great opportunity for a wing lover to get a near new
vintage wing. Despite the carb issue, this engine feels like the new engine it
is- strong, smooth, classic.
I have only given it a light clean. Stripped down
and buffed up this bike would shine like new with very little effort. Nothing
is missing that I know of and it even comes with the original manual and
complete toolkit. There is some very minor surface rust in places and a few
scratches on the paintwork which would most probably buff out, but generally
speaking this bike is in fantastic condition, with no fading at all on the
instrument panel or anywhere else.
But it does need work. The carbs do need to be
removed and that would be a good time to use a carb rebuild kit like this:

The brakes also need attention. They do work but
there is negligible stopping power. Either the fluid will need to be replaced
or the master cylinders will need rebuilding as well.
The tires seem okay. They hold air, but I have no
idea how old they are.
The seat is very nice but there are two blemishes:
one where the seam has come apart about an inch, and another tiny split on the driver's
seat.
The air suspension and front shocks seems to work
okay but of course it would be wise to change out the oil from the front forks.
There is one tiny chip on the fake tank but
otherwise it is pretty good. In fact, all of the paint would be excellent with
a good buffing.
There are no oil leaks after running it along the
freeway for an hour.
I am being very critical here so the new owner does
not get any surprises. But really, this bike is in amazing condition given its
vintage and it should be an easy restoration back to the gorgeous touring
machine it once was.
The bike is registered in my name in California and
is licensed for another 12 months.
I am advertising it locally so it could be withdrawn
at anytime.
Although I think this is an awesome bike, and I have
tried to describe it accurately, it is 30 years old and I cannot guarantee it
or warranty it in anyway. It is sold as is where is. Although I have ridden this bike as is, I do not recommend you do so until you have made it safe and roadworthy.
I can help with shipping as long as the buyer pays
for it and makes all the arrangements.
A deposit of $500 thru Paypal will be necessary
within 3 days of auction finish and the balance can be cash or cashiers check.
The bike will not be released until all monies have cleared my bank.
Good luck and thanks for looking.

Honda MotoGP Production Racer Undergoes Testing at Motegi
Mon, 27 May 2013Development of Honda‘s new production racer is well underway, as the new (relatively) low-cost MotoGP racebike underwent testing at Japan’s Twin Ring Motegi circuit May 23-24. Conceived as a lower-cost option for race teams, the production racer project is running slightly behind schedule but Honda still expects it will available in time for the 2014 MotoGP season. Early reports estimate the price for the production racer to be around US$1.26 million, a substantial price, but still considerably less expensive than rumored $3.9 million it currently costs to lease a Honda RC213V for one season.
