Back in the day, the All Japan 500cc Championship at Tsukuba

This ‘you tube’ gem sent to me recently brought back some funny memories from the scary but incredibly exciting days of 500cc two stroke racing. This particular race was the final round of the All Japan 500cc Championship at Tsukuba Circuit where I enjoyed a head to head battle with national hero Tadahiko Taira. Yamaha’s favourite son at the time, ‘tie wrap’ as we liked to call him, was taller and better looking than most Japanese riders (maybe a war baby?) and went on to win nearly everything in Japan during his career.

GSCEs and podium finishes

16-year-old Sophie Walls is not your common teenager, along with achieving 14 GCSEs yesterday she balances her studies with being one of the youngest female racers in the country. Sophie rides a Honda RS125 in the Classic Motorcycle Racing Club and was fortunate that the Sir Graham Balfour School she attends in Stafford gives her sporting leave so she can travel to race meetings. A real Monster of a bike

The bike above was once a Ducati Monster S4. It was restyled by Italian custom builder Ferruccio Codutti who took a year crafting the look out for aluminium for one of his customers. Ignoring the grotesque nose, Codutti's work is impressive as the front end was made by the man himself.
