"Otherwise, aside from a few visual tweaks (different lower cowlings, restyled muffler tips, gunfighter-style seat and a new body panel between the tops of the saddlebags), the F6B is a Gold Wing through and through. Same fuel-injected, 1832cc opposed-Six engine, same sportbike-style aluminum frame, same single-sided swingarm, front suspension, brakes, instrumentation, headlights, taillights and so on.

Once you toss a leg over it, however, the F6B is far from the same, even if it has not rolled forward an inch. Flicking it back-and-forth while straddling the roomier, marginally lower seat reveals what the loss of so much mass—in particular, that big, heavy trunk that sat so high and so far to the rear—can do to reduce the Wing’s center of gravity. Shorter riders immediately felt more able to pull the bike back upright if it happened to tilt a bit too far one way or the other when stopped.

But once moving, the difference is so pronounced that the F6B almost feels like an entirely different machine. With 62 fewer pounds to lug around, the big Six can leap away from a dead stop at a rate that, quite literally, yanks your arms straight, and its acceleration through the gears is noticeably more brisk than it was on a couple of standard Gold Wings Honda had on hand at the F6B’s recent press introduction. And roll-on performance in top gear? Thanks to the huge torque output of the flat-Six (122 foot-pounds, says Honda), it’s already outstanding on a full-boat Wing. But on the F6B, essentially a Wing that has been to Jenny Craig, the roll-on is sneaking up on awesome." - By Paul Dean Kevin Wing cycleworld

2014 WSBK – Portimao Results

Mon, 07 Jul 2014

Kawasaki‘s Tom Sykes extended his championship lead while a Race Two collision between Aprilia teammates Sylvain Guintoli and Marco Melandri provided drama in the World Superbike Championship round at Portugal’s Portimao track. Sykes qualified on the pole in a sun-draped Superpole session but the clouds rolled in on race day, forcing teams to plan for mixed weather. An overcast sky presided over a dry Race One, leading to a mix of tire choices but all of the racers switched to wet tires for Race Two that saw the scheduled 20-lap length reduced to 18 laps.

AMA Pro Racing Announces Basic Twins Flat Track Class for 2014 Season

Fri, 12 Apr 2013

AMA Pro Racing announced a new class for Flat Track racing designed to provide a new stepping stone for up-and-coming Pro-licensed racers, replacing the Pro Singles class in 2014. The new class, to be called Basic Twins, is more or less a revival of the Basic Expert Twins division that ran during the 2007 and 2008 seasons, but dropped when the Pro Singles class was introduced for 2009. The new class will give young racers a chance to showcase their skills on Twins, easing their transition to eventually enter the Grand National Expert Twins class.
