2013 HONDA CRF450R, Winning Is Everything. Everyone is going to remember 2013 as the year Honda took the 450 class and blew it WIDE open with the totally redesigned CRF450R. Huge changes are going to jump out at you. First is the CRF450R s all-new air-fork front suspension. Nearly two pounds lighter than a coil-spring fork, it offers easier adjustment, less internal friction, and even better handling. Next, an all-new twin-spar aluminum frame. You ll see some big changes in the steering-head area. That s because the frame is designed specifically to work with the new fork. Check out the CRF450R s short radical new twin exhaust. The system moves the mufflers in way closer to the bike s center of mass. They re super short and compact, and work in perfect concert with the 2013 model s new bodywork to make this the most flickable CRF450R ever! In fact, everywhere you look you re going to see upgrades this year: The engine gets a new piston shape, porting, and valve timing, along with more compression for more power. The radiators are smaller and flow more air. The clutch is totally redesigned with six springs for better feel at the lever. Even the footpegs and tires get the Honda touch. Air Fork = The Future. The CRF450R s new 48mm inverted KYB PSF (Pneumatic Spring Fork) air fork is a cannon shot in the suspension revolution. It s almost two pounds lighter than a conventional-spring fork, is super easy to tune (all you need is an air pump no special tool needed) and totally eliminates internal spring-to-forkleg friction. Twice As Good. Why go to a twin-muffler setup on the new CRF450R? The mufflers are way shorter, lower and tucked in much closer to the bike s center of mass. That helps make the CRF450R even easier to whip and scrub, and also contributes to the bikes improved power, while keeping it quiet at 94db. The Next Generation Of Best. An all-new twin-spar aluminum chassis was designed specifically to work with the CRF450R s new air fork. The twin spars are lower to improve handling and to lower CG. The result? BSB 2012; Mystic Mac investigates
Tue, 03 Jan 2012In my opinion, the smartest move in the BSB off season has to be Michael Laverty moving from Swan Yamaha to HM Plant Honda. With a ban on electronics for 2012, and in particular traction control, WFR's Graham Gowland has already proved to Laverty how competitive an EVO spec Fireblade can be - so I’m tipping both these riders to be bang on the money at the Brands Hatch season opener in April. Unlike BMW, Kawasaki and Yamaha, Honda have deliberately developed their road-going Superbike without electronics to give a user friendly feel with good mechanical traction, so it’ll be interesting to see how the opposition copes with their high-tech trickery stripped off.

Thu, 17 Mar 2011By now, we’ve all seen pictures and video of the devastation in Japan following the March 11 earthquake and the ensuing tsunamis. Japan, of course, has contributed much to motorcycling, with the Big Four of Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha, as well as tire manufacturer Bridgestone, helmet companies Arai and Shoei and many other motorcycle industry stalwarts all coming from the Land of the Rising Sun. Jon Bekefy and Greg Hatton, two motorcycle enthusiasts, industry employees and above all, humanitarians, have set up a fundraising campaign benefiting the Red Cross for relief efforts in Japan.
Stoner Tests Honda RCV1000R MotoGP Production Racer
Thu, 03 Oct 2013Retired two-time MotoGP Champion Casey Stoner returned to the track this week to test Honda‘s RC213V racer as well as the company’s new RCV1000R production racer at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit in Japan. This was Stoner’s first test on the production racer after rain cut short a previous test session in August. The weather again threatened to derail Honda’s testing plans, wiping out the first day of the two-day test but Stoner was able to finally able to put in some laps on the production racer and came away impressed.
