2023 Honda XR150L Review – First Ride

This entry-level offering checks all the boxes for new riders and seasoned enthusiasts alike Photos by Jay McNally The Honda XR150 has been in production since 2003, though up until recently it wasn’t available in the US market. Selling most of the units in Asia or Latin America, the XR150 platform is one of the most popular entry-level dual-sports, and its introduction to the US comes with some welcome perks; time tested engine and components plus a 20-year history of available parts – both OEM and aftermarket. Honda’s reliability is legendary, and this little XR150L is likely no exception.

Honda’s V-4 History

As Honda prepares its new VFR1200 for its official unveiling, the red-wing company has set up a website detailing its long involvement in V-4 engines. It began back in 1979 with the introduction of the NR500 grand prix racebike. Rather than fielding a 500cc two-stroke engine, Honda used a four-stroke oval-piston V-4 motor – essentially a V-8 with four cylinders that could be revved to 19,500 rpm!

Honda 'Hands'

Honda are well known for their commercials with their 'Cog' ad for the Honda Accord car (2003) the most awarded of its time. Honda's latest advert celebrates the curiosity of their engineers and features classic motorcycles such as the Honda Cub and the RC112. A CBR and CRF also make an appearance along with a nod to that previous ad, a cog.
