Honda 450 Scrambler description

You are looking and maybe bidding on a 1971 Honda CL 450 Scrambler, MFD 6/71  with original 3340 miles ( titled with original Michigan title as a 1972 model most likely since it sat in the showroom  over the winter from 71 to 72 and then was sold and titled in 5/08/1972 )

I purchased this bike about  2 1/2 years ago from the original owner, ( I never put the bike in my name and only test drove it after the restoration was completed )  the bike was taken  completely apart to every last piece, except the engine that at that time was never opened or touched .

The frame was media blasted, etch primed and pro. painted with a DuPont 2K urethane, same with all other frame parts  like swing arm, engine mounts, triple tree,  toolbox etc. wheels were taken apart inspected and the hubs/plates re-polished, both front/rear brake shoes show almost no wear. the fork was disassembled and re-polished  and had new seals , oil and new fact. gators installed. The steering head received new Timkin bearings. The  original strato blue paint was perfect on the head light ears as well as on the side covers and really did not need repainting, however the side covers were used to computer eye match the base coat and  we decided to re base/clear the rest of the body parts, the tank received 3.5 coats of clear ( 2K DuPont brand  in a professional paint shop)

The engine  was exceptionally clean and hardly needed any attention ( see pictures)  side covers, valve covers and camshaft covers were  carefully removed and also re polished  reinstalled using new gaskets and  the original Honda  bolts  to keep the bike as originally as possible. Even the original  chain ( with no master link)   as the bike was equipped when it came from the factory was washed  oil bathed and reinstalled , you can see that there is no visual  wear on the sprockets.  Carbs were cleaned/ rebuild. Air filters, intake and air filter rubbers are in perfect shape with no cracks or dry rot, or dirt . Timing, valves were checked and adjusted to specs ( I do own over 10 450  Hondas and know  and worked on these bikes for more then 44 years, it was a 450 Honda that became my first big bike back then, and I still love them and their potential as Todd Henning proved......)

The bike was reassembled, only about a dozen  new rubber grommets , nuts and washers ( SS) were installed in this process, AS you can see in the pictures the bike is stunning with nice chrome no rust on spokes nor on the  exhaust ( except one small area on the right exhaust manifold  where the out side bend  is coming out of the engine ) The tires appear to be original, plenty of tread left with no dry rot/cracks at all. The seat was pro. reupholstered as the pictures show.

All electrics/ lights/horn/blinker etc.  work as new, the engine has super good compression runs  real strong with plenty of power and shifts  fine through all gears and does not smoke/leak  at all.

The bike has to be picked up by the buyer, however in the  past I shipped bikes ( 3 ) to Australia and other countries, I will assist in loading and/or even crate for a small fee to save everybody some money.

The reserve is set relatively low for a  bike in this kind of condition with a reasonable buy it now price.

You can see/hear the bike  run on YouTube at sailnau
