1968 Chang Jiang with a BMW R90 conversion.     5728 Kilometers You have the opportunity to own this stunningly beautiful, powerful and RELIABLE CJ750 with a BMW R90 motor. I personally created the paint and color scheme and it was the VERY FIRST to have a toaster tank.  It was professionally built by Chang Jiang expert Jim Briant at Jimbo’s Classic Sidecars in Beijing including the BMW R90 conversion.  After the restoration it was shipped to my home in Houston.  The bike is showcased on Jim’s website and can be seen here:   http://www.changjiangunlimited.com/CJU/750/Frank.htm    It was also used in a Walneck’s Classic Trader advertisement several years ago.   I have a clear Colorado title in my name and all of the systems on the bike work correctly.  Horn, lights, blinkers, etc.   I have owned this bike since the restoration in 2008.  In that time I have put 3555 wonderful miles on it.  With the BMW motor this bike has been supremely reliable and powerful well beyond that of a typical CJ750.  I have toured the Rocky Mountains in Colorado for many years and taken it on two, 1,000+ mile trips into the Snowy Range in Wyoming.  It starts easily, idles smooth and has excellent acceleration through all 4 gears.  It also has a reverse gear, which is a nice feature.    The bike has been well cared for, never crashed and always garaged.  I do ride it though and it has typical minor wear.  I have insulated the trunk compartment with 1” foam and trimmed it with black vinyl.  It looks nice and will keep your food or adult beverages as cold as any ice chest for hours!  This is a fabulous bike for anything from a leisurely ride to a picnic or serious long range touring.     The sidecar has traditional square-edged tires on it but the bike currently has Duro street tires as I had recently been riding solo in the mountains without the sidecar.  The bike and the sidecar are currently combined and aligned correctly.   It is truly a beautiful bike that gets lots of attention and I have won many awards with it.  I have plenty of bikes however, including other sidecars and it is just not getting the use that it deserves.  Bid with confidence and buy a fun, great looking ride.

A Different Bike Magazine

Thu, 12 Feb 2009

Motorcycle Retro is a pet project of former Motorcyclist editor Mitch Boehm, launching as Motorcyclist Retro in early 2008 under the Source Interlink media umbrella. It featured a contemporary look at motorcycles of the 1960s through the 1980s. However, the circulation numbers of MR didn’t meet the expectations of the media conglomerate, and they cancelled production of the magazine after just two issues.
