Harley-Davidson Touring description

I have an original 1968 Harley slab side shovelhead for sale. Harley made the generator shovelhead from 66 - 69. I bought this last year and have been trying to fix it up since. It runs (sorta), but needs finishing. Good compression, all wired, with a ton of original parts. Even original paint! (Not the eagle on the front fender). It is registered in my name, but I owe back fees on it, so obviously I will pay those off when it sells. If you know anything about Harleys, you know this is a very rare find. Shifts through all the gears, has electric and kick start, but I haven't been able to get the timing right. Pushrods are adjusted, I just can's seem to get the distributor correct. I got it to run roughly a couple weeks ago, but got frustrated and haven't done much with it since. I have half a dozen other bikes and need to clear out a couple, so this one is going up for sale. The left spot light is burnt, and the rear tire has a slow leak. I put a mousetrap shifter on it, but it is harder than hell to pull, so another set up might need to be put on.
Obviously it needs finishing up, but it is 95% of the way there. All lights work, and turn signals are all good and function as they should. Doesn't really need any parts, just someone with more patience and expertise than I have. The license plate is original, not the new black California plate that is cheap. Note the first and last numbers on the plate are "68" - I thought that was cool. A real piece of history that I will most likely regret selling, but I need the money right now. Feel free to email with questions.

Off-Road Motorcycle and Free-Ride Bicycle Compared

Thu, 11 Dec 2008

What if anything do bicycles and motorcycles have in common? Besides the whole two-wheel thing, it isn’t outright apparent that these two “handle-barred beasts” share more than ancient ancestry. Modern Off-road motorcycle and Free-ride bicycle designs side-by-side illustrate how much technology the two have in common.

Harley-Davidson Closing Australian Cast Wheel Subsidiary

Thu, 08 Dec 2011

Harley-Davidson is closing its cast wheel and hub producing subsidiary New Castalloy, deciding to outsource production to third-party suppliers. Based in Adelaide, Australia, New Castalloy produces about 1,450 wheels and 500 wheel hubs per day for Harley-Davidson. That work will be transferred to outside suppliers by the middle of 2013.
