Harley-Davidson Softail description

For sale is a 2004 Harley-Davidson Softail Deuce (FXSTDI). The bike has a fuel injected 1450 cc twin cam 88b engine and a 5-speed transmission, and has approximately 8300 miles on it.

The 1999 - 2006 Harley twin cam engines had a well-known issue with the cam chain tensioner. The chain tensioning system in these engines used plastic “shoes” riding on the cam chains. In a number of instances at varying mileages, the spring-loaded plastic cam chain follower fails and shreds plastic material that fouls the rotary gear oil pump, cutting off oil flow to the engine and creating an expensive repair bill. The recommended fix for the issue is the replacement of the tensioner with a hydraulic tensioner. (2007 and later engines use the hydraulic tensioner.)

For peace of mind, I installed the Screamin' Eagle Hydraulic Cam Chain Tensioner Plate Upgrade Kit 25824-11, which includes a hydraulic tensioner, a high flow oil pump, and a billet cam support plate. The oil pump increases the oil supply by 23% and scavenging by 50% compared to the original pump and reduces operating temp of bearings to improve bearing life. Retail price of the kit was $499.95 (installation not included). At the same time the upgrade kit was installed, I had a Screamin' Eagle Stage 2 EFI Kit 29490-99A (stage 2 cam/ air cleaner) installed. (I believe the kit used SE203 cams). To complement the cam upgrade, I also installed a Vance and Hines two-into-one exhaust, and a Cobra Fi2000 PowerPro fuel injection auto tuner (retail $599.95) for continuous precise fuel tuning.

Other upgrades to the bike include:

-HD oil cooler
-LED turn signals- front signals relocated
-HD LED brake light 69367-07
-Run-Brake-Turn light module
-Custom HD front wheel
-Luggage rack/ backrest

I believe the bike is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic shape. If you would like a local mechanic to inspect the bike, I will be happy to facilitate the inspection.

New Harley-Davidson Sportster for India to Use 500cc V-Twin

Thu, 03 Jan 2013

When Harley-Davidson first entered the Indian market, The Motor Company decided to import existing models as complete knockdown kits for final assembly in the burgeoning market. Considering the average motorcycle in India has a displacement smaller than 200cc, it was inevitable Harley-Davidson would eventually have to produce a small-displacement model rather than rely on its existing product line which currently lists the 883cc sportsters as its smallest bikes. Despite a denial last May by Harley-Davidson India’s Managing Director Anoop Prakash, it now appears Harley-Davidson is set to announce a new small-displacement model to be produced in India at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo next February.

2013 Harley-Davidson Breakout Unveiled at Daytona Bike Week

Fri, 08 Mar 2013

In a rare move, Harley-Davidson has unveiled a base version of its Breakout months after first launching the exclusive Custom Vehicle Operations version. Presented at the 2013 Daytona Bike Week, the 2013 Harley-Davidson Breakout offers a similar low and muscular profile as the CVO version but at prices starting at $17,899 compared to the premium model’s $26,999 price point. Tom Roderick reviewed the 2013 Harley-Davidson CVO Breakout last August, saying it “continues the tradition of exclusivity, performance and style customers have come to expect from Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations.” But take away the premium CVO features and what do you have?
