2008 Harley-Davidson FLSTF Softail Fat Boy, FLSTF - WE FATTENED IT UP QUITE A BIT LAST YEAR, AND IT CONTINUES TO ROLL AS THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP OF FUNKY CUSTOM. Its front fender shows off the broad 17-inch front wheel. Its custom skirted back fender sits above a 200-millimeter rear tire. The wheels are solid slabs of cast aluminum, ringed with 0.50-caliber, bullet-sized holes. Everything about this motorcycle commands space on the road. The seat is low and wide. The thick 96-cubic-inch helping of Harley-Davidson V-Twin engine is served up in chrome and black. There’s a shotgun exhaust. The Fat Boy is what it’s always been and more. One big-boned knockout.

On Tuesday, August 5th, at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip, the sixth annual Biker Belles symposium presented by Harley-Davidson kicks off at The Lodge at Deadwood. Proceedings get underway with filmmaker, Michelle Carpenter, showing a clip from her new documentary about women riders, “Driven to Ride.” When Carpenter finishes, a panel of leading industry women will address attending participants, including motivational speaker and safety expert, Cat Hammes; Team Diva owner, Diva Amy Skaling; ROAR Motorcycles founder, Kathy Tolleson; National Online Director of Marketing & PR for Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys, Audrey Nesbitt; drag racer, Andie Gaskins; and more. For some time now, Harley-Davidson has been trying to fight the stereotyped image of its customer base as being predominantly older, Caucasian males. Harley-Davidson‘s Stereotypical Harley campaign became a big part of the company’s advertising efforts in 2012, featuring real Harley-Davidson owners and showcasing the large diversity of its riders. Fighting against preconceptions can be difficult but Harley-Davidson has some numbers to prove its motorcycles are popular with other demographics including young adults, women and minorities.
