It starts with a powder-coated Twin Cam 88B engine. Dual counterbalancers make it feel as smooth as it looks. The Softail Standard features a raked FX fork, laced wheels, fat rear tire and a bobtail fender for the styling traditionalist. A hidden rear suspension shelters the backside from bumps while maintaining the clean hardtail appearance. Many will find this bike everything they want. Still others will put some sweat equity into it with Genuine Motor Accessories and some wrenching. If you’re one of them, the perfect steel canvas awaits. Vespa goes back to the future
Thu, 22 Nov 2012IT'S been a while coming, but the gorgeous Vespa 946 - EICMA 2012's Best of Show - has finally introduced something to the two-wheeled world that our four-wheeled counterparts have had for a while. I call this 'reverse retro-futurism' - the art of borrowing lines from models past and imbuing them with a sleek sense of future direction (as opposed to retro-futurism, the pre-1960s design trend of depicting the technology of the future. The term 'decopunk' may come close, but feel free to tell me if there's a more exact term.) It's what the New Mini and the New Beetle (both 1997 and 2012 versions) have done so well, and so successfully: building an all-new model as a tribute to a classic, something that's modern yet already timeless, with a widely-appreciated, inclusive aesthetic (and here we eliminate the Plymouth PT Cruiser from the conversation). The biking world is great at retro, indeed thrives on it, but not so good at adding in a taste of the 21st century.
Harley-Davidson’s 110th Anniversary Party Is Just A Week Away
Fri, 23 Aug 2013Harley-Davidson has been preparing for its 110th anniversary party for the past year, celebrating in 11 countries on six different continents. In the past year, Harley-Davidson employees, dealers and riders have shared thousands of amazing experiences, including a ride through the Tibetan Plateau in China, a parade along the beaches of Sao Paulo and even a Papal blessing. But now the party is coming home to Milwaukee over Labor Day weekend, which promises to be the biggest celebration of them all. Milwaukee residents have always been cordial hosts for Harley-Davidson enthusiasts who make the journey to the City of Festivals from around the world. One Anniversary tradition is the welcoming home of thousands of riders by Milwaukee area residents who stand on the city’s highway overpasses with homemade welcome signs as riders arrive in Milwaukee.
