PURCHASED NEW FROM MOBILE BAY HD IN MOBILE, ALABAMA, IN APRIL OF 2003. GARAGE KEPT, LIKE NEW CONDITION. 3,158 MILES. BIKE JUST HAD IT'S 2,500 MILE CHECK-UP (AT 3,150 MILES) AT LOCAL HARLEY DEALER. BATTERY ONLY 6 MONTHS OLD & WIRED FOR EXTERNAL CHARGING HOOK-UP. I REPLACED THE ORIGINAL HD SHORT, FAT HEADLIGHT WITH A NANZ BULLIT LIGHT. I ALSO MOVED THE HANDLE-BAR MOUNTED TURN SIGNALS TO THE FORKS OPPOSITE THE HEADLIGHT, AND CHANGED THE MUSHY HD GRIPS. In a time before the economic meltdown, motorcycle sales, especially for Harley-Davidson, were booming. After the collapse, sales have only started to pick up again within the past two years (at nowhere near pre-2008 levels, however).

As Pete wrote in our own review, the Harley-Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight has a rugged, bobber-inspired look with its chopped fender, chubby front tire and underslung mirrors. For the guys over at Cycle Canada, the Forty-Eight conjured up a rather odd image: roller derby.
