In 1991, Harley-Davidson celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Sturgis rally with a specially trimmed FXDB Sturgis model. The following year, a similar tribute was paid to the 50th anniversary of the Daytona meet with the FXDB Daytona.

The Harley-Davidson FXDB Daytona introduced a pearl color scheme to Harley bikes.
The Harley-Davidson FXDB Daytona introduced a pearl color scheme to Harley bikes.

While the Sturgis wore somber black highlighted with touches of orange, the Daytona was dressed in brighter shades with a more traditional level of chrome trim and boasted Harley's first true pearl paint job. On the tank was a special decal announcing the 50th anniversary as taking place in March of 1991.

Triple disc brakes were bolted to color-matched cast wheels, and highway pegs were mounted to the lower frame. Production was limited. Only 1,700 Daytonas were built, which was not nearly enough to go around.

Tue, 04 Mar 2014

The American Motorcyclist Association has bestowed a special recognition award to Zero Motorcycles and its Vice President of Marketing, Hall-of-Famer Scot Harden, for their work in attracting new riders and the positive impact they’ve delivered to mainstream media. Harden (pictured above from our recent Zero FX dirt riding review) and Zero were awarded the AMA Bessie Stringfield Award which recognizes individuals who have been instrumental in bringing emerging markets to motorcycling. The award is named after 2002 AMA Hall of Fame inductee Bessie Stringfield, the first African-American woman to ride solo across the United States and a civilian motorcycle dispatch rider for the army in World War II.

Backflips on a Harley? [video]

Mon, 07 Dec 2009

In late November two motorcycle daredevils from opposite sides of the world were fighting to see who would be the first to backflip a Harley Davidson XR1200 motorcycle. Australia’s Kain Saul reached the Promised Land first when he made a successful jump in Sydney on November 27. Harley-Davidson believes Saul’s jump is the first ever successful backflip for any full size street motorcycle.
