All hardware is Harley Davidson OEM 1038 cp
The Dual Exhaust Pipe may be original.
The frame is stamped as an H7 that it was made in July, 1957?
HD started their VIN #'s at 1000. The VIN on this Panhead is 1705 or 705th off the line.
OEM Hardware and parts

1947 Indian Chief

The Chief is a "matching numbers" bike.

Motor VIN #CDGXXXBM makes this a Bonneville with 1300cc vs 1200

"BUT" I have NOT pulled the heads. No plans to do at this time to verify!

Carb is correct for the year as a M344 Linkert.

A partial restore is started so there is some incorrect hardware, etc.

The magneto was replaced in January, 2016 by "Mainely Magneto's"

The bike was in running condition but not started when I bought it.

I have done nothing to the bike and being sold AS IS!

Am adding an aftermarket windshield "and" what appears to be a NOS front fender lamp!

Frame shows a matching sequence number - barely visible but is there to verify!

Thu, 23 Jan 2014

No, you didn’t read that headline wrong. Harley-Davidson will reveal its Street line of motorcycles to the US market at the X Games today with an ice racing exhibition. While exciting, the winter X Games have clearly been lacking one thing – motorcycles – and the Motor Company has joined with ESPN to bring ice racing to mainstream audiences. What could be a better way to introduce the Street 750 to a young, adventure sports-focused market to the Harley line designed by and for them?

Shelved Harley-Davidson Penster Tilting Trike Prototypes Revealed

Thu, 04 Aug 2011

The Harley-Davidson Museum has pulled the covers off discarded prototypes of a leaning three-wheeled motorcycle developed by The Motor Company. Harley-Davidson commissioned automobile hot rodding legend John Buttera to build the original prototype (pictured above) in 1998. Codenamed the “Penster”, the Trike looks like it could have been an earlier version of the Can-Am Spyder, but it had a tilting front end similar to the Piaggio MP3.
