Harley-Davidson FXR description

STOP.  Read this please.  Forget what you think you know about shovels and their unreliability. This is the best shovelhead on the planet.  I bought this bike as a complete running unit with 26k miles on it. It's the first year of the FXR--the bike that saved harley.  This has original frame raked to 42 degrees, and the original motor, built very mild with vulcan evo stlyle lifter blocks and lifters.  Starts runs and rides like an evo.  I've eliminated all the classic shovel reliablility issues with Dyna S ignition and CV carb.  ALSO, the primary and clutch are from an '01 FLT, so you get the best primary drive, and it's mated to a 91 transmission so you've got the late model starter with pushbutton engagement--works like a charm!  Has kick start conversion that works perfectly.  I also invented a pivoting rear fender that moves up and down with the wheel, but doesn't have that ugly gap between seat and fender.  I submitted a provisional patent application for that set up, and I've never seen anyone else do it.  There are many subtle one-off parts on this bike that don't draw attention, but it's deceptively simple and functions beautifully.  As radical as this bike looks, it's as comfortable a s a dresser.  I made some seat mods that make it a dream to ride, even long distances.  This bike was inspired by the marlboro man fxr, and the name is a take-off of the famous "Aluminum Overcast" B-17.  Tank is all paint, no stickers--made to look like a battle-worn airplane. It's a factory Harley FLH tank with a custom one-off dash in aluminum.  Call 423 285 0050 with questions.  There's a video of me starting it on youtube if you search for 1982 shovelhead fxr.  Don't be afraid to make an offer, but understand that this is a special bike to me and I'm not going to give it away.

Shelved Harley-Davidson Penster Tilting Trike Prototypes Revealed

Thu, 04 Aug 2011

The Harley-Davidson Museum has pulled the covers off discarded prototypes of a leaning three-wheeled motorcycle developed by The Motor Company. Harley-Davidson commissioned automobile hot rodding legend John Buttera to build the original prototype (pictured above) in 1998. Codenamed the “Penster”, the Trike looks like it could have been an earlier version of the Can-Am Spyder, but it had a tilting front end similar to the Piaggio MP3.

Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Team Unveils Restyled V-Rod Drag Bikes

Fri, 09 Mar 2012

The Harley-Davidson Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines racing team unveiled its restyled V-Rod drag motorcycles ahead of the first Pro Stock Motorcycle round of the 2012 NHRA Full Drag Racing series. Reigning champion Ed Krawiec and Andrew Hines will compete for the Harley-Davidson team on new V-Rod drag bikes, restyled to more closely resembled the Night Rod Special production model. This marks the first restyling of Harley-Davidson’s NHRA competition bikes since the V-Rod entered the competition in 2002, and comes as The Motor Company celebrates the V-Rod’s 10th anniversary.“The goal was to make the drag racing motorcycles look more like the current production Night Rod Special motorcycle,” says Kris Schoonover, Harley-Davidson racing manager.
