After the great success of the Tamburini designed 916/996/998 series, a new version of the now famous Desmodromic 4-valve Ducati “L-twin” superbike was introduced in 2003. Designed by Pierre Terblanche, the new 999 Testastretta model was instantly controversial. No one doubted that this was an extremely high performance motorcycle basically oriented towards the racetrack, but the styling was radical. Some critics hated the new missile-like styling, others loved it, but the fact remains that Terblanche had created ONE OF THE WORLD'S MOST POWERFUL AND FINEST-HANDLING SUPERBIKES. The engine had an incredibly flat torque curve, with power all over the rev range. The chassis was firmly in Ducati trellis-frame tradition, which makes for a very light and rigid structure, yet with enough “give” that road conditions are instantly communicated to the rider. From the very first the 999 was successful in the World Superbike Championship, winning the series in 2003, 2004 and 2006. The 999 R model commemorates that success and thus is essentially A STREET LEGAL RACE REPLICA. With 150hp at 9750rpm, one could go from zero to 60mph in only 3 seconds, with over 170mph possible.
This 2003 Ducati 999 R - limited edition # 0185 - has less than 5000 road miles, and is essentially A NEW MOTORCYCLE. Ready to ride and/or show. Its maintenance schedule is current. Installed is a 57mm Termignoni carbon exhaust and various factory accessory carbon pieces, and a slipper clutch; it does come complete with the original exhaust, and with all original tools and accessories.
Terblanche’s 999 R is out of the closet, it is now happily appreciated for its bold approach. And its huge success on the race track.

Intermot 2012: Ducati Monster Celebrates 20th Anniversary
Wed, 03 Oct 2012Ducati marked the 20th anniversary of its air-cooled naked Monster line at the Intermot show in Cologne, Germany, the exact site where the M900 was first unveiled back in 1992. For 2013, Ducati is offering an anniversary edition version with bronze-colored highlights reminiscent of the original M900. Available for the Monster 696, 796 and 1100 EVO, the 20th Anniversary Edition adds a steel trellis bronze frame, gold brake components, champagne front forks, gray swignarm, engine outer casings and lower triple clamp and chrome headlamp support.

Mon, 28 Feb 2011As I’ve been gagging for the new race season to kick off so it was almost a pleasure getting up at stupid 0 clock to watch the World Superbike Championship opener at Phillip Island last weekend. I have to say Messrs Burnicle and Whitham were on form although I was disappointed there were none of the usual verbal attacks on each other that always add to the entertainment. I’m sure they will put things right soon but the world superbike regulars must have been disheartened that Moto GP veterans nailed five of the six available rostrum slots.
2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale S Receives FIM Superstock Homologation
Thu, 01 Mar 2012It was only a matter of time but finally the news is official: the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale S has been added to the list of homologated motorcycles for the Superstock 1000 Cup The Panigale was noticeably absent from the initial homologation list the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) released a couple of weeks ago. Now, with a month until the 2012 Superstock 1000 Cup starts at Italy’s Imola circuit, the 1199 has been cleared to complete. The delay was merely a formality however, and teams such as Effenbert-Liberty Racing have already begun testing the Ducati 1199 Panigale S in racing trim.
