While Ducati unveiled the highly anticipated Streetfighter 1098, 1198, 1098R Bayliss replica and the M11 to press, it also showed dealers a fifth model. Ever since Audi acquired Ducati, we’ve been anticipating the first cross-brand technological developments between the Italian motorcycle maker and the German automaker. Sure, there have been some cross-promotional tie-ins, but we’ve been waiting with baited breath to see what Audi, and its parent company the Volkswagen Group, had planned with Ducati‘s small engine technology. Well we don’t have to wait for much longer, as VW Chief Executive Officer Ferdinand Piech revealed the first product of the “DucAudi” union in a speech at the University of Vienna: a new sports car concept called the Volkswagen XL Sport powered by the Superquadro engine from the Ducati 1199 Panigale.

Ben Spies to Ducati in 2013

Ducati has confirmed that Ben Spies will be riding for the Italian company in next year’s MotoGP championship. Joining Spies is Moto2 phenom Andrea Iannone. Apparently, Spies and Iannone will be competing on the Pramac Ducati team and “will be supplied with official equipment.” With Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso already confirmed for the factory Ducati Team, this announcement concretes a competitive, four-pronged attack for storming next year’s championship.
