Those who want to enter the Monster universe with a bigger bang, in terms of both styling and performance, need look no further than the S2R. As the years have gone by and the Monster phenomenon grows, the family has also evolved and extended to include a “street fighter” philosophy. The more aggressive Monster SR bikes were born, with a meaner, more modern look, a more sports-style chassis and a higher level of performance. Its air-cooled 803 cc L-twin engine strikes a perfect balance between peak power and torque. It delivers sports-level performance, yet is balanced, reliable and easy to tame, thanks in part to the racing-derived electronic fuel injection system. This entry-level, high performance Monster also features the exclusive APTC system, which ensures maximum safety on the hardest rides as a result of the slipper-clutch action when down-changing. The system also makes city riding much more comfortable because of the extremely light clutch lever action.

With the machine officially revealed, the pressure now turns to factory riders Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden who try to rebound in the 2012 MotoGP World Championship after a difficult 2011 season. The 2012 livery adds a touch of green striping resembling the tricolore version of the Ducati 1199 Panigale S and celebrating the company’s Italian heritage.

The eight-round championship will support the British Superbike championship for six of the eight rounds and will also head to Assen for the third year in a row and also to Misano as part of the World Ducati Week.
