Video & Cassette Tapes, DVD, Blu-ray & Game
Discs New: The
package is complete, is possibly still wrapped in its original case, and has no
wear visible from use, though factory defects may be present, such as an
off-centered insert or printing error. Any other such defects must be
described. If opened, the disc must have absolutely no wear visible, the insert
must also be free of wear meaning no creases or wrinkles, and must show
evidence that the disc has never been played. Bright, cartwheel full shiny mint
lustre present. Like New: The
disc may have been played no more than a few times and has no visible
scratches to the naked eye, though upon magnification, some hairline scratches
may be visible. The disc's lustre is nearly full and appears a bright white in
colour. The extra inserts, if included must be present. The case has very
little wear present in the secondary spots and very little shelf wear. Very Good: The
disc will show signs of use, there may be light scratches and or marks which
will be visible to the naked eye. The disc is still shiny, though not quite as
bright as a "Like New" disc. Any inserts or extras may show signs of
being handled and there may be writing on them. There is light shelf wear on
the plastic covering of the DVD/Blu-Ray disk, and very minor wrinkles &
minor tears may be present. Good: Disc’s
graded Good, will show signs of wear, scratching and marks on disc will be more
prevalent than in those graded Very Good. The lustre is fading and is more of a
greyish white in colour. The inserts and extras may be missing, have writing on
them, have tears and creasing etc. Light to moderate shelf wear on the case and
light, but noticeable wear on the box/cover, with minor creases, wrinkles, and
a very slight loss of gloss. However disc should still play through without
issue. Acceptable: The
disc consists of moderate to considerable scratches, but none break the surface
meaning that the disc still plays through without any skips, loops, or
scratches. There are only traces of original lustre present, giving the disc a
light gray colour. The box/jewel case shows moderate wear with creases, some
loss of gloss, and perhaps a small tear or two in the less prominent
spots. Inserts are missing or are considerably worn and/or missing pages.
Overall, buy these if you're on a budget or simply want to upload these to a
digital device Grading Guidelines:
Vinyl Mint (M): Absolutely
perfect in every way - brand new, certainly never played, possibly even still
sealed (if specified). Near Mint (NM): A nearly
perfect record.
The record shows no obvious signs of wear. A 45 RPM or EP sleeve should have no
more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible wear or other signs
of slight handling.
An LP jacket should have no creases, folds, seam splits or any other noticeable
similar defect. No cut-out holes, either. And of course, the same should be
true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves and the like.
Basically, an LP in Near Mint condition looks as if you just got it home from a
new record store and removed the shrink wrap.
Excellent
(Ex): Perhaps the lightest of surface marks on the record, but certainly
nothing that would affect play. Sleeve may have some light creases or marks, or
just general storage wear, but nothing overly noticeable.
Very
Good Plus (VG+): A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played
and otherwise handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Record
surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very
light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that
do not affect the sound are okay. The label may have some ring wear or discoloration,
but it should be barely noticeable. The center hole will not have been
misshapen by repeated play. Picture sleeves and LP inner sleeves will have some
slight wear, lightly turned-up corners or a slight seam-split. An LP jacket may
have slight signs of wear also and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation
or corner indicating it was taken out of print and sold at a discount.
In general, if not for a couple of minor things wrong with it, this would be
Near Mint. All but the most mint-crazy collectors will find a Very Good Plus
record highly acceptable.
Very
Good (VG): Many of the defects found in a VG+ record will be more pronounced
in a VG record. Surface noise will be evident upon playing, especially in soft
passages and during a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music
otherwise. Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches
(deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
Labels may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue)
attached. The same will be true of picture sleeves or LP covers. However, it
will not have all of these problems at the same time, only two or three of
them.
Good
(G): Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good condition can be put onto
a turntable and will play through without skipping. But it will have
significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear. A jacket or
sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape,
writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.
Poor
(P): The record is cracked, badly warped, or won't play through without
skipping or repeating. The picture sleeve is water damaged, split on all three
seams and heavily marred by wear and writing. The LP jacket barely keeps the LP
inside it. Inner sleeves are fully seam split, crinkled and written upon. Please read below,
