"Back In The Woods" I wrote, "Back In The Woods," about a moonshiner running from the cops. The song idea just sort of came to me one weekend. Moonshine is very common where I'm from so it is also a popular song to play at shows. Right now, it is definitely a crowd favorite so I chose to name my album after it. I would have to say it is my favorite song on the album. "The Man I Am Today" Although "Back In The Woods" is my favorite song to play on the album, "The Man I Am Today" is my favorite overall. I wrote this song about my grandfather, Bill Pressley. Every line in this song is absolutely true. Although he had bad habits, such as gambling and drinking, he still played a huge role in who I am today. The song took me about fifteen minutes to write. It felt like it had been in my head for years waiting to jump out onto the paper. When I played it for my mom the first time I knew I had something special. Her reaction said it all. "Don't Write Checks" "Don't Write Checks" is a song I wrote about advice my father gave me growing up. My father was my hero back then, and still is to this day. I wanted to write a song that he could appreciate and others could as well. I also needed a song that would excite people and get them on their feet at shows. So far, it has done a pretty good job of doing just that. "That's All She'll Ever Be" This song was written about my sister, Brooke. I don't need to describe her on here because the song takes care of that. Contrary to the song's ending, she hasn't been married yet, but she will when she meets her "desperado." My favorite thing about playing this song at shows is hearing her "rebel call" when I start it. "Moonshine On My Lips" Again, moonshine is popular in my small town. So, why not write another song about moonshine? I based the song around a guy using moonshine as a "pick up" line in a bar. It is definitely a crowd favorite and gets them singing along. In the future, I hope to do a remix to this song. "She's Falling Behind" "She's Falling Behind" is a song I wrote about my view of the world today. In all honesty, I believe the world in general has lost it's' way. Certain professions make too much money and others don't make enough. I believe how we put a "value" on someone today is not based on their contributions to society, but their popularity instead. However, as the song states, I believe in the world and know it can change. "Pregaming" I had to write a song about pregaming. Who doesn't like to pregame? That's the best part! In terms of writing, this song is most recent on my new album, "Back In The Woods." The more I play it, the more I like it. It always puts a smile on the crowds face. Plus, I had been dying to include the word "terminator" in one of my songs. This song checked that off my bucket list. "Don't Talk Crazy" This is one of my favorite songs I have written thus far. Similar to "The Man I Am Today," it only took me about twenty minutes or so to write it. Everything just clicked in writing this song. I wanted to have a good "love" song that people could relate to. I reference the "Coan Farm" and "Crab Creek" in this song, both are places right next to my parents' farm in Penrose. This song is about how relationships should be when you find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.
