1942 Cushman Model 32 (1942)
Found in a Point Loma, CA garage, this original US Navy scooter was believed to have been used at the Naval Air Station San Diego, now known as NAS North island on Coronado. Built for the war effort and never registered as a civilian vehicle, these scooters were commonly used for messengers and for internal transportation on large military bases. They often came with no lighting or brackets to save on materials. The US Navy accounting department tag is still in it's original condition, riveted to the frame near the footwell.Painstaking effort was taken to recover the original Navy registration number, which was found under multiple layers of paint. The body is original and its unrestored condition is pictured as well as the completed restoration. The motor is a 4 hp Cushman Husky (believed to be original) with a centrifugal clutch, the engine tag has also been left unrestored. I've had a lot of fun with this scooter over the last few years, including winning the La Jolla Motorcar Classic event in April where it took 1st place in the motorcycle class.2016-12-05 04:49:30Vista, California, United States913520
